I think that people who rent out their primary residence shouldn't have to pay tax on the income (less expenses), this would allow people to be more mobile and rent elsewhere in the short term, when say moving to a new job with the outgoing rent covered by the incoming rent (more or less).

I can see why you would suggest that but I think it would be open to manipulation and abuse.

Cant make my mind up whether 7% is a big number or not, particularly bearing in mind it is calculated from the final figure (2007) making it a percentage of the cost of a house rather than a percentage increase (again, if I have read it right!).

According to halifax house price index during the same period

    - South-West up 230%
    - East Midlands up 204%
    - Greater London 270%

Is it a fair bet? with an equal possibility of both sides winning? Or perhaps it's a loaded sitaution where one person knows for sure. Why don't you take him up on it?

He didn`t challenge me, so why would I take him up on it (unless I knew for sure he was wrong) ?

My only involvement is that I made a reply to a post by The_Fox, which chucky "stamped on" by refuting the claims of the The_Fox.

Make it worthwhile at say £50k

Fine by me, i am up for it:)

Joking aside and on a serious note, i knew this Chucky would suddenly keep his BS ing mouth closed.
This is the point i am trying to make, he is one of these BTL a***holes that post thousands of times trying to make themselves look all sincere and "this is how it is guys, honest", they make emotive statements about the opposing opinion(and i think you all know what mine is), and accuse them of "losing it" or "ranting", whether it's a property related fact on not they try and discredit at any cost telling any fairtytale.

If this Chucky is lying about this(crisis being not open and me not going, because "he knows"), how the **** ca you believe anything else what he posts.
I know what i sound like, i might come across as a complete phscho, but what i say is from the heart and honest(in my head).
Chucky is just another one of these gelled haired 4x4 driving slimey sales types where you can trust them as far as you can throw them.

The bet still stands, any amount of money, but Chucky will be avoiding me like radioactive fallout from now on, thats the typical answer from a BS'ing coward that trys to bully on the web.

Is a cronnie a euphamism for something?

I have been thinking the same since the return of chucky. I like a "bit of a go" (soundbite ?) like a lot of other people on here. I don't think I ever get too personal, by calling people losers or anything like that. Greedy, yes, I have accused a few people of that characteristic, but I don't think I`m out of order for doing so.

Seems to me that when certain forum members have their backs to the wall (or are out for the count), they get a bit nasty. Understandable I suppose, and it's only words on a forum anyway.

    Round 4 - fight !

Yes, but you can't compare "7%" against these numbers because they are expressing different things. The numbers you quote will (I expect) be percentage increases from the initial cost, whereas the "7%" is a percentage of the final cost.

e.g. House has initial cost of £100,000 and goes up 230% over the period to £330,000.

If we assume 7% (£23,100) of this is the effect of BTL, the increase will be 23.1% of the initial cost. So, this is the figure that should be compared to the one you quote for the SW.
