How odd. I had a few minor issues with their system which I put down to teething troubles and these have all been resolved. I now find their online banking system to be the best I have used (and I have used most). Not to say I don't take on board what you say, petmar, but why isn't my online experience 'riddled with bugs'? I log on each day and often create payees, both individual and companies. I transfer money between accounts, set up standing orders, view my direct debits, check my statements and so on without a single problem.

I must admit my account isn't joint, so maybe this is the cause of your troubles.

They use Temenos's Banking system, and there's nothing wrong with it... the naming is an administrative issue, ditto for you not being able to login.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with the CSV format, if software you're using can't open it then that software is either broken or you have a localisation issue since unfortunately, the CSV delimiter tends to vary; the US and UK use a comma, some european countries use a semi-colon, others use a dot.
  • Olipro. Whatever the cause of my problems, the point is Metro Bank have not addressed them after several phone calls over 3 months. I still cannot access my statements. Of course they never contact me, I'm having to continually chase them.
With regard to the CSV file, I use MTO2FX software with files from several financial institutions without a problem.
Have you used the search function? Their own Customer Support admitted it didn't work.
Needless to say I won't be using Metro Bank as my main bank account.

  • I sent an online message to MB about a month ago but no one ever bothered replying. I guess no one works in that department yet.

Their website is not fit for purpose. I tried to log on today to see if it has been improved & I could not log on.

The last time I tried it, there was no facility to view a statement for the last 3 months.

If I download what little statement it will show me, rather than have one transaction per row (like a real bank does), each transaction could take several rows. Totally useless for keeping a spreadsheet. Their website is like a bug ridden school project.

I applaud any new bank bringing competition in, but for now Metro bank should be avoided until they get their act together.

jonesjw, is there a hidden agenda here I am not party to? Are we looking at the same online banking site?

I just logged on to double-check what you say and I can view statements right back to October when I opened my account. The statements are beautifully formatted as pdf documents - exactly what I would want. Each item has information about the time, date and location of the the transaction.

At the risk of repeating myself, IMHO this is the nicest online banking service I have used. I have first-hand experience of LTSB, Barclays, NatWest, Co-op/smile, Citibank, Nationwide, Halifax, NPBS, Yorkshire BS, Cahoot, amongst others.

What might complicate things is that you do your accounting by spreadsheet and want the statement downloads to be compatible. I use finance software on my Mac and add each transaction as I make it. I then use the online statement to reconcile my record. I would hate having statements formatted as csvs!

Since Metro Bank launched on 29 July 2010 you have posted on this forum 21 times , 17 of your posts relate to Metro Bank and only 4 of your posts do not relate to Metro Bank in any way

Perhaps I am mistaken , but you do appear to be a little pro-Metro Bank :D

LOL! Am I that keen? Seriously, though, I have had a lot of accounts and have had an interest in retail banking going back decades since I opened my first bank account in 1978. I am very enthusiastic about Metro Bank - and I do tend to evangelise about things which have ticked the right boxes with me.

If I said I was also a big-time Apple fan you might get the picture! :)

    Hidden agenda, well no!

I would love Metro Bank to succeed, to allow me to move my main banking from the Nationwide (after they hoiked away the free overseas cash withdrawals).

However, their website is a shambles. If I download a statement, it only gives me the csv option, no pdf. The Metrobank has the worst website of any bank I have experienced, even worse than the Alliance & Leicester.

Here is an example of what you may find on the website, well over 50% of the time I try to use it. You don't get that at the Nationwide, Nat West, Halifax etc.

Come on Metro, get your act together. Then I can write something positive here.
