Thinking of signing up as a replacement to my Nationwide Flex. Anything bad so far?

If you just need it for going aboard then open an account.

If you want to use it as your main account then don't until they have more branches and sort out FP

BTW I had problems years ago with having a Nationwide Flex Account. Certain companies wouldn't let me set up direct debits with them. Unfortunately for them it became the companies loss as I shopped elsewhere and got products/services cheaper.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

I agree with the fact that it is annoying that some retailers/websites have not updated their systems so as to accept the mastercard debit card.

However, so far I have found the service good and things are improving (eg. the website), and having been in branch today, I was informed that faster payments will be up and running in March. I'll wait until then before I move my day-to-day banking over.

It does look better, but for some reason I can no longer access it from work, which is rather annoying.

What web browser and version do they have at your work?

From a technical standpoint, it's the most advanced e-banking site I've seen, using AJAX technology that only loads stuff as needed, rather than loading full pages every time you click. This does mean it might have problems with older browesers, though.

Internet Explorer 8. However, I think something is restricted either at the browser level or at the proxy level, so that scripts don't always run properly. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I do sometimes get Javascript errors with sites that work fine from non-work computers. Most sites work fine though, so it's not a total block.

I am using Firefox and Camino on a Mac. Works fine in both browsers, though Safari doesn't work.

In my experience, only what's been mentioned already on this thread - no outgoing faster payments, no MasterCard SecureCode (so cannot be used for online payment with many sites) and the tendency to occasionally get the card declined. I understand that the latter is not generally MetroBank's fault, but it's frustrating not to know in advance if the card will be accepted if it's somewhere you've never shopped before.

Benjus - securecode should not be mandatory if the card does not support it - the payment should go straight through without going to the securecode site. Mastercard and Visa t&cs require a retailer to accept all cards in the scheme they are signed up to. Have you actually had your card refused on that basis?

    Hi,
I have a metrobank account and am travelling to the US next week - does anyone know whether this is still the cheapest way to draw out foreign currency and whether I can use it to pay for things while I am in the US?

I have tried to navigate my way around their website but it doesn't seem to have any useful information - when I opened it they said they were the best but it was just after they initially opened.

    Thanks
  • BEWARE, I have been with them 3 months & their computer system is riddled with bugs. Problems acknowledged on opening our joint account have still not been resolved.

The names on our account still don't reflect our joint names.
Only my wife can access statements.
Only 1 of which is accurate.
    The search function doesn't work.
The .CSV download files are unreadable by other software.
Accessing the account from Thailand was slow & frequently unobtainable.

Their software is simply not fit for purpose & they lack procedures to update it.
