International & UK CallChecker discussion

Connection fees to call 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers will be banned by Ofcom on 1 July 2015.
Thereafter, retail call costs for calls to these numbers will be split into two parts, each separately declared: the Access Charge paid to the benefit of the caller's landline or mobile provider, and the Service Charge paid to the benefit of the international dial-through provider and their telecoms supplier.
The MSE International Call Checker will need to be completely redesigned by that date. Failure to do so will place MSE in breach of Ofcom regulations.

If it's an 084 or 087 number, that description will also be wholly inaccurate, even for BT customers.0 -

Mmmm i smell spam.
I notice they conveniently forget to to mention the 15.97 p current call set up charge when quoting rates from a BT Line.Which you pay whether your connected or not to your final destination.0 -
I tend to agree, first post and they mention a company they are " doing some work for".
I'm sure a link would have been provided if it were permitted.
I am familiar with this company and their rates are nothing to shout about.OldGreyFox wrote: »Mmmm i smell spam.

WARNING info is incorrect.. dialing 0843 from a Virgin line as of 11May15 is 16p/ minute not .5p/minute!!0

Where did you get this information from?
According to the Virgin Media website rates for calling 0843 numbers vary depending on the specific number range and rates start at 5.1p/min + 17.5p call set up fee.

I doubt it.Different 0843/0844 numbers have different rates .
First find out charge band.
Then see: http://store.virginmedia.com/content/dam/eSales/Downloads/010415%20Residential%20Cable%20V1.pdf for the latest call charges.0 -
Virgin Media charge a 17.5p connection fee and then depending on the first six digits of the 084 or 087 number being called, a per-minute rate between 5.1p and 12.41p.
This table lists them all, plus similar details for 09 numbers.

On 1 July 2015 connection fees for calls to 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers will be scrapped on all networks and the call price split into an Access Charge and a Service Charge, each separately declared.0 -
I recently had an email from my service provider (Plusnet) about the changes to charging on the 1st July.
Their access charge has been set at 9.58p/min, this is going to mean an increase in rates for calling specialised numbers in nearly all cases.
Plusnet's existing rate for calling the 1p/min number is 3.14p/min + 15p call set up fee.
Currently a 10 minute call to the 1p/min number costs 46.4p, from the 1st of July this will increase to £1.06
Call charges may become clearer but at what cost? The consumer certainly is not going to be the winner.0 -

Yes many cheap call suppliers will suffer.
But you can still call Intl destinations at decent rates possibly cheaper then what you are paying via a 0843/0844 number, by using a provider that provides access via a freephone or a geographical number (useful if you have inclusive minutes). Or by using a cheap payg sim service.0
