Does turning router off every day slow down internet connection?

Had this reply from my ISP
"Thank you for your query. What they have said is correct in the sense that every time u disconnect your router the telephone exchange measures this as a disconnection. When it notices a certain amount of disconnections in a certain period of time it will limit the speed as it will think there is an intermittent fault that needs slowing down. Routers are designed to be left on all of the time so I would suggest to do this to ensure maximum stability and speed. "
So will be leaving it on,thanks everybody
ISPs have a habit of telling people things that aren't strictly true. If routers were designed to be on all the time, then they wouldn't be any need for DHCP servers. Like I said above, if everybody ran their routers all the time then we would run out of IP (IPv4) addresses and have to move to IP version 6. (IPv6)
Going on to IPv6 would cause all those people who had incompatible equipment to be taken off the internet, which is why none of the ISPs have the guts to do it yet.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -
If we had an abundance of IP addresses though (thanks to IPv6), would that negate the charges that some ISP's demand for static IP addresses......Signaller, author, father, carer.0

I was told that my slow speed was because i turned the router off at night. The exchange was compensating by giving me a slow speed thinking the router was having trouble connecting. I stopped turning it off for a while but now do so again and up to now the speed has been fine.0

Mine goes off every night and it makes no difference to speed .
Repeated short interval on and of is what will send the message thats something is wrong and connection gets downgraded .

You need to be wary if on an IPStream connection (i.e. BT, or any other provider throught BT exchange kit. Too many disconnections and the dreaded DLM may kick in and lower your IP profile, i.e. reduce your sync speed by raising your snrm. Most LLU providers don't use this type of line monitoring/adjusting.
If you are with Plusnet the answer is yes, I used to turn off my router to save power and then found my connection specifically cutting out, not slowing down, at the average time I turned it off. Had to request to be put on ADSL2+ and then leave it on for at least 10 days to get back to optimal speed.
They did say though that you'd have a decent 15-20mins if you needed to unplug and move the router, or re-initialise the connection. Also my router isn't wireless so the BT initiative to let other people use my wireless wouldn't apply.0 -
All my PC gear is on 24 hours a day .. although I did read somewhere that a re-boot of a modem every now and again is considered good practice!0
