Does turning router off every day slow down internet connection?

My mate has been told by a BT technition that turning off your router every day slows down internet speeds.
I turn it off for security(even though PC is turned off at wall socket) and to save electric.
Should I be doing this?

Every time I turn mine off at night and back on the next day it syncs with the exchange at the same speed.
You can find this speed in your router's internal web admin pages.0 -
But what about this, it seems conflicting views

O_O i would write letter to mp outrageous!!!!!!!:D
i have also heard that if router get turned on/off frequently then exchange views it as damaged line and throttle speed, but i do nt know myself, i leave mine on all the time anyways0 -
When I first switched to a LLU service I had frequent 'hanging' of my internet (would interrupt for 6 seconds at a time every 3-5 mins)... not noticable really when browsing but would kill and streaming and was a real pain for online gaming.
After some fidddling by an ISP techie at the exchange the problem reduced and then went away after about a week.
Powered it off again when I was away on holiday and the problem was back but less severe (1.5s hang every 5 mins or so and went away after 48hrs this time).
These days I try not to turn it off if I can avoid it to ensure a stable connection.
However if you only do basic browsing and are not sensitive to minor internet glitches like that no reason to worry about powering off/on. Speed was about the same throughout.0 -
If you do this during the first few weeks of your internet connection being active it can slow things down as that is s stabilising period where the line is checked for error blocks, downtime etc...
After that it shouldn't make any difference. I guess it is possible that the there are further tests, but I haven't heard of such things happening.
I leave mine on as I can't be bothered to switch it off and have iPhones and Laptops that I want to connect at odd times of the night.

BT don't want you to turn off your router because that will lead to dead spots in its FON service which uses some of your bandwidth for the great unwashed to use, for a consideration.:DThat gum you like is coming back in style.0
