Current 4 monsters - got them from Gumtree at about 8-7 weeks of age.
Yes, shelters are full of cats looking for homes but people like me (working, living in a flat, with a dog already) are not given a chance to offer a home to a rescue cat.
Not my fault that so many cats will never have a home with a warm bed an their own human - shelters need to look into their rehoming policies....as very often they are preventing decent people from offering a perfectly good home to a cat.0 -

I think that is a bit of a sweeping generalisation, I volunteer for a national charity and we judge each case on it's merits, I have no qualms about rehoming cats to people with your circumstances as long as the cat is suited to that set up.
To get back to the OP, I got my cats at 18 months, 3 years and 10 years, all rescues. We have no trouble homing kittens but the older cats are often overlooked and they have so much love to give, please consider an oldie!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I think that is a bit of a sweeping generalisation,
Yes, it is as I have contacted several charities (including national ones and smaller ones too) and NONE of them even got back to me....
And I know several other people who had exactly the same experience, unfortunately for the cats of course
So that "get a rescue cat/dog/hamster" advice that comes across on the forums several times per day... not everyone is able to get a rescue.
Sorry OP, just a little sore point for me...hope you find a suitable kitty for yourself0 -
Orbit (RIP) was a little kitten when my ex got him (long story of abuse towards kitten by ex) & he lived for a good 14 years before passing to Rainbow Bridge in Sept 09.
Daisy Fuzzlebug adopted me at around 3 years old & she spent the majority of her time in the ASSISI Animal Sancturary as she's a B&W Purrball.

We've had loads of rescue cats in the past, but in our present home originally adopted 2 females aged 5 and 7, five years ago. This year the older one died after a long spell of medical treatment and the younger one was bereft - we've since re-homed her with a wonderful owner and hope they have many happy years together.
We now have a 4 year old who came as a 'feisty' kitten (he was a really-not-cute string of teeth and claws who fell in love with our son and they are still inseparable) and a pair who were 2 and another 7 year old male. They all came from the Cat Protection League in Dundee, and we wouldn't be without them!
I would take on an older cat first*, as they're more difficult to re-home, but then maybe get a kitten in the future, as it's more likely to 'fit in'
* assuming that once you get one, you want more!0 -
Take a Black & White cat as they are overlooked!!!!0

Youngest was 3 days and the oldest was 17 years - and I've had just about all ages in between! I've had all sorts: feral adults, abandoned kittens, cats from broken homes, cats with no ears, cats with brain damage..... and they just sort of fitted in with a house full of other cats and dogs. Just takes a little time and TLC.
I think I'm just a sucker for a sob story
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!
