Car Hire - too good to be true?

With apologies to all who have lost money - I'm surprised this hasn't attracted the attention of the media more generally? It's an exceptional news story and one that allows them to indulge in a bit of schadenfreude at the expense of the FT and Grauniad. Perhaps more publicity might ratchet up the pressure on the police? As previous posters have said, this has been an exceptionally well-planned and convincing scam, that seems to have paid off to the tune of many tens, probably hundreds of thousands of £s [perhaps one of the signs of a great scam is that no-one can be sure of the amount involved]. Has anyone here been in touch with Watchdog for instance? I suspect that the prospects of getting any money back are long gone, but retribution would at least be second prize.0

Watchdog probably would'nt look at it as they would'nt be able to do anything about it, which would make them look bad and they want viewers to see that they make a difference!

I got nailed in the CCE scam (16m went missing ???)
These peeps got nailed here with this BS car hire scam...
and as read on BBC news today, a bloke who ran a 15m ponzi scheme just after coming out of jail 2 years ago could face going back, not might, just a minor possibility....
Scams and poor customer service is all i read about these days!0 -
Crazy to see there website is still up, and no updates on here, nothing in the scam news either..... looks like another bunch of crooks have slipped by our useless authoritive bodies (Police / Trading Standards / OFT )
I think next time i hear about someone getting scammed, i'll call HMRC and report the scam company for tax evasion as opposed to ripping off the public, that would have them out in force straight away!0 -
This is a scam - we were fortunate as we paid by credit card and hopefully will be able to claim this back, but I would urge everyone who has lost out to these cowboys to report them to the police on this number contact the Telephone Investigation Bureau on 020 8345 3947.
I called today and there are only 20 filed complaints - the good news is a warrent for one arrest has been issued today.0 -
It's crazy they only know about 20 scammed people. There will be many more. I suspect some people just don't know who to call, or they call their local police force and they don't know who to call either. Fraud in the UK pays.0

Hi, did everyone who added their crime to that reference have their details taken? I reported mine at the local police station, they informed me that they added to that crime reference and that someone else would be in touch. No one ever got back to me.
Thanks0 -
I called Islington Direct who took all my details and a summary of what happened0

has anyone who paid before 23rd December been able to get a refund from their bank?
I'm with HSBC....I went in to branch just after Christmas and filled out a form and have been chasing ever since but still no responce.
Also reported it to my local police (Humberside) and the lady I spoke to was very rude and her exact words were...."we won't take any action because there is no proof a crime has been committed in this area so it would make our crime figures look bad..."
I also reported it to the Met police throught their online reporting system.....supposed to get a call within 72 hours...that was over a month ago!0
