I need to report a dangerous dog

Hi, a family I know who live nearby me have a staffie. Its turned 3 times now and attacked each adult family member. The first attack wasn't to serious. The second put the female into hospital needing skin grafts. The third time the male dog owner was bitten badly enough to need to be taken to hospital by ambulance.
This family have a 2 year old child, and I cant stand by and do nothing, I need to report this dog (anonymously) before the baby is put in danger.

I am suprised that the police/ambulance havent followed up the incidents themselves, especially with a 2yr old living with the dog.

Who can I report this to please? Thanks

I'd tell the police. The baby is in immediate danger and I'm amazed that the dog is still in the house.

I would suspect that the adults lied about the injuries, such as saying they were attacked by a stray dog.

You could try your local neighbourhood police officer.

Why the heck would anyone want to keep a dog that does that???

Are you sure you have the full facts, surely the parents know whats best for the child and would remove the dog if they had concerns.

Personally I hate busy bodies feeling its their duty to report things and staffies are always demonised. I have read harrowing cases where dogs have been snatched from families un-necessarily thanks to people that don't know about dogs. If the services have already been involved and not taken action they obviously don't think it necessary and no police force is going to want a dead child on their hands if they could have intervened earlier.

I would leave alone unless you have irrefutable proof that the dog is a danger. I feel there has to be more than meets the eye to this as parents don't knowingly keep a vicious dog around kiddies.

Unfortunately that isn't true of all parents, is it?

I have a rescue staffie. He has never done that.

Turning 3 times is proof enough.

So why didn't the authorities pick up on this then. I think even the untrained amongst us could get a gut feeling about peoples parenting skills and responsibilities. If the police had any doubts that dog would have been out of there.

So Cyril, what would you do? Ignore it?

The parents could have lied to the medical staff that it was a stray dog or a dog whose owners they cant trace. And sadly, some people dont put the safety of their own children first.

If you are worried OP definitely report it. If the dog really is dangerous, how would you live with yourself if something awful happened to that child and you had the chance to prevent it. If it isnt dangerous, then they have nothing to be worried about by being investigated by the police.

I'm not sure what your argument is Cyril, clearly the owners themselves have been attacked? And therefore the child is in dannger?

I think that this is one for social services as a child is in potential danger.
afaik no law has been broken as the dog hasn't been 'out of control in a public place' so the police have no obligation to act even though you'd hope they would!
