Dental dried food is not worth the bother
I found it to have no effect whatsoever (except make me much poorer) - recommend normal quality dried food & Logic gel applied on gums.
The vet recommended it.
Perhaps it varies, brand to brand.0 -
i recently had abit of a budget change and looked into cheap but decent cat food.
as a result i have changed my 2 over to butchers classic and they love it.
costs approx £2.75 for 6 cans and it is recommended to feed a can a day per cat.
(though my 2 share 1 can a day and have james wellbeloved as well)
it is a good wet food as it is grain, soya and sugar free and according to info from petforums it is 60-70% meat which is good for the price.
another bonus is that most supermarkets sell it0 -
oh thats strange as i get it very easily in both tesco and sainsburys - would of thought it was in asda too0

Northern Ireland's a law unto itself.For example,when I worked at Sainsbury's for a while,the month before Christmas,they de-listed Atora Suet which,as you know,is a main ingredient in Christmas pud!!0 -
Must look into Butcher's classic, I hear different things about its quality, meat-wise.
Just switched from IAMs dry to Fish4cats dry (70% fish), after the excellent advice at www.petforums.co.uk. Boris is no more fussed than he was with the IAMs dry (prefers his wet), but it goes during the day.
Just bought some Smilla and Animonda Carny wet from www.zooplus.co.uk (German imports, where standards seem to be higher), as they are also high in meat content, with no grain or rice fillers at all. Can't believe for years I assumed Whiskas was the best, cos the ads said so (8 out of 10 etc), when in fact it's as poor in nutritional value as the worst out there. Boris is finishing off his pouches that we have left of Whiskas/Gourmet Perle etc, then moving onto the German cans. Hopefully he'll like them, and I'll feel he's eating what he should be.
They are more expensive per can (as opposed to say Whiskas), but the feeding recommendations of 250g-300g a day mean it's only a few pence a day more, and he's getting decent meat content.
Only been doing this for a week, so can't comment on the benefits (and he wasn't poorly anyway - only 9 months old!), but it's got to be the way forward, surely. A few extra pence invested in decent food may well bring its benefits in less vets bills later on, I reckon...0
