Best thing to feed my cat

Hi everyone, just hoping for some advice on what is best to feed my cat.
He is currently eating 3 Whiskas kitten food pouches a day. He is around about 8 - 9 months now. We have fed him Whiskas kitten food in varying amounts since just after we got him.
I'm really just wondering when we should switch him to adult food, should he be having more variety (i.e dry & wet foods), which foods are best, etc etc. I had a look online but there seems to be so much conflicting advice!
What do you feed yours?

i agree with gradually switching to adult wet food and offering some dry.
my cat gets fed mainly dry food with the odd tin of wet, although she and the others prefer wet food.0 -
if possible, you should also look at switching brands as well.
in many cases a good high quality food can even be cheaper than a selection of whiskas/felix. (bozita is quite cheap per serving and has a really high meat content)

give some really good advice about cat food.
personally, after years of whiskas, we switched food, and i do think my cat is much healthier now!
We currently have two (new addition) and they currently get :
meowing heads throughout the day
and about a 2 table spoons of either bozita, purley at home, naturediet, or hi-life 60% at night.
as a treat i sometimes give them raw chicken wings, liver, chicken breast, a tiny spoonful of wet dog food.0 -
Arden Grange dry food is meant to be the best I think.
Mine won't eat it. They eat Sanabelle (dry) all day and Bozita (wet) in evenings. Both bought from Zooplus.
Sometimes they have some JAmes Wellbeloved.0 -
The links given to the petforum threads are fantastic.
If I were you, and your budget could take it, I'd go grain free, cats don't need grains, they need meat, the more the better. So with whiskas having only 4% meat, I'd get off it right away if I were you. Rule of thumb is, anything advertised on the TV is crap.
Cats also do better on wet food so if you're happy to feed a wet diet there's no reason to add dry. But of you do want to try dry, ingredients wise Orijen is by far and away the best. But there's links to other grain free foods in the pet forums links.
As mentioned Bozita is fantastic. If you want something you can grab in the supermarket, Bozita is called toplife in asda stores. Also pets at home often have nature diet on offer, it's 70% meat. Even their own purely wet food is decent at 50% meat. Of the hilife pouches are 19p in most home bargains and b&m's and they're 60% meat.
I can never understand how whiskas get away with being so expensive considering the ingredients.Sigless0 -
Daisy has really taken to 'Royal Cannin Exigent Savor 30/35'..for fussy furballs!

My cat will only eat Applaws food - mixture of dry and fish tins and pouches - she's very spoiled but very healthy
I don't know how Whiskers and other brands charge so much for total rubbish!
I think the good stuff actually works out better value in the long term.0 -
My two eat Royal Canin biscuits in the morning, and then a few more in the evening plus a wet pouch to share between them. They won't actually eat any more wet food than that! Two pouches between them, and they'll barely get through half!
Royal Canin is excellent for a whole variety of flavours and tastes (esp for fussy cats), although I also advocate Orijen for ingredients. They don't need much, and are much healthier on food which is designed for their stomachs, rather than supermarket commercial crap.
I completely concur that anything advertised on TV is not good for them! Whiskas is hugely overpriced and poor quality food.
ETA - mine also won't touch Arden Grange or James Wellbeloved. I refuse to give them Iams even though they like it.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
Mine are on PAH Purely for their dry, and Feline Fayre for their pouches (1/2-1 pouch each a day).
Usually buy the Purely on offer, and the Feline Fayre is something like 12 pouches for £2 in Asda and 60% meat (though it is only a complimentary food).0 -
Had a look at the great links above and whatever food I looked at, it seems to come to around £1 per sat per day... I got 4 cats....£120 per month?
