Avis Edinburgh Airport Scam

Ok, well it will hardly be news here that car hire companies try to load extras like insurance and fuel onto a hire arrangement when you turn up to collect the car...BUT... this one really stinks...

Turned up to collect the car (pre-paid through BA), was given the documents and the keys, signed on the dotted line and drove off. Nice and simple.

But - get this, while I was waiting she was keying in extra insurance and their fuel surcharge. All came to about £115.

None of this was mentioned - and this is the worst bit....the documentation which I thought was A5 was in fact A4 tightly folded over to hide all the extras she had loaded on. Is it not simply fraud to hide the terms of a document whilst it is being signed?

Only spotted it on the last day....Grrr

Have raised a complaint through Avis to no avail. "We don't believe your account of events". Have also raised a chargeback though Barcalycard "Car Hire companies will take the balance of your account at the end of the hire period" ???? Have complained to BA "We have no record of your complaint" aagh!

What next........???

No matter how tightly folded a piece of A4 is it doesn't look like a piece of A5.
You didn't read the T&C, you agreed to the charges, you are at fault.

A5 is exactly half the size of A4. Therefore a piece of A4 folded in half can look like a piece of A5. :D

But I agree with your other point.

Actually I did read the T&Cs but they aren't numbered so when the piece of paper you are shown has a heading it is fair to assume that that is the top of the T&Cs. "Just sign here and the car is in bay 20".

I doubt that hiding half the document constitutes a fair contract.
