Laides Sanitary Stuff - Cheap Instead Cups

  • Mooncuppers, one of the things I wondered is, how do you carry it around when you're not on a cycle? ie, if you want to carry it just in case you do start early / unexpectedly? Is there a box to put it in? I'm envisioning a sort of plastic box like a brace box from when I was younger!

Also, are mooncups more popular with older or younger women do you think?
  • They come with a little drawstring bag. You can get cute little pouches too.

Most women I know who use them are in their thirties and have found them after having children- you go to playgroups and have all SORTS of conversations :p. FWIW I wish I'd known about them years ago, and I'll make sure DD (and her friends) know about reusable options when the time comes.
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Incidentally, many brands of mooncup are coloured; the colour is added in the manufacturing process and cannot leach out.

Very true, but also some people like the environmental aspect of them, so not adding extra chemicals/colourants is a bonus.

Does anyone know if it is ok to use with a coil fitted?

    It's fine.

Mooncups have a huge FAQ page and are even on facebook.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  • I have heard/read that the Mooncup is the stiffest and hardest to use, maybe one of the other, softer ones may work for you?

I have a mooncup, which I find really stiff & would prefer a softer cup, has anyone tried one of the softer cups? Which one did you try and would you recommend it? Thanks, Lou. :)

I had a moon cup years ago and loved it, keep meaning to get a new one. For anyone who's interested thought I'd make you aware of fairy pads (reusable sanitary towels)-

I am on a table called Cerazette (a progestogen-only pill).

I know it doesn't work for everyone, but I don't have periods at all and the pills are free. Only 1 check up per year as it has less side-effects than the other pills e.g. less frequent blood pressure checks.

    Brilliant (and free).

personally i can vouch for cerazette as well AND a big added bonus for me is that it also stopped me from having really bad PMT (which i rarely had when i was younger, just gotten bad over the last 10 years) and i didn't gain a ton of weight either :T

Just for the record instead cups can be reused _ I have experience with them in the world of surrogacy where they have a whole different use and I used mine over and over just washing it out between uses .

i used a product like this years ago and did the same thing with no ill health. i stopped using them when i was pregnant (obviously) and can't remember why i didn't go back but if i weren't on cerazette and still had regular cycles i'd probably invest in a mooncup or alternative, they really aren't bad at all once you get the hang of it and personally i found them no more troublesome to get the hang of then tampons..

My favourite is a Lunette, but it is also fairly stiff. However I also have a large Yuuki, which has a greater capacity, and which is definitely soft. I use it at night for my heaviest nights as it doesn't leak; not just because of the capacity, but -I think- because it is soft and flexes more when I move/get up at night. The downside of a soft cup is that they are harder to get to open properly as they can remain folded and semi collapsed.
