Laides Sanitary Stuff - Cheap Instead Cups

  • I am also a Mooncup user. My initial thought was "how disgusting" but it is so simple to use. All the "mess" just gets flushed down the loo or even the shower. Its easiest when you can reach the sink from the loo for washing but easy enough even in public loos. I use a liner for breakthrough but no more tampons so worth the initial outlay and better for the environment too. When I bought mine they were cheapest at bodykind but worth shopping around. give it a go!
  • Which "cup" is suitable for someone who has never used tampons?

There are so many on the feminine website, it's quite confusing.

Maybe this http://www.femininewear.co.uk/meluna-ball-style-soft-menstrual-p-902.html?osCsid=c7eghef4lh76542e0ca5i3aps1 in the smallest size?
  • I take the daily Cerazette prostrogen only pill. I get a check up yearly, where they take my BP and ask the usual questions. I even asked if it was still suitable as I get migraines now and again, it is suitable. I would be very angry if I couldn't take this pill if they withdrew it because of cost!

The most amazing thing about mooncups is that they are not more widely known about. No more discomfort (you can't feel them once they are in), no more drying out, no more risk of TSS, no more worrying about carrying tampons around with you, just pop in a mooncup and forget about your period! Choose a size that is dependent on your flow.

It will take three cycles to get the hang of using them and then you will never look back. I just wish I hadn't wasted so many years with smelly, unhygienic tampons.
  • I'm jumping right on the mooncap band wagon! I have had one for a year now and I love it. recently (and I'm horrified to admit) I couldn't find it and had to buy some tampons and was gutted - such a waste of money!

taking out is a bit weired at first but (and again embarassment) you get used to it and use your muscles to exert it - IYSWIM- so its not that messy :o:rotfl:

definately recommend to a friend ;)

So many pretty colours! I have heard/read that the Mooncup is the stiffest and hardest to use, maybe one of the other, softer ones may work for you?

OMG so much less than my mooncup!

There is a big shortage of cerazette atm but it is not the fault of the NHS. The drug companies manufacture it and sell it to wholesalers who sell it abroad rather than to our pharmacies as they can get a better price with the exchange rate. It is totally immoral but not illegal and means that many of you cerazette users may have to have a few months of another progesterone only pill which is not at all ideal.

I was taken off the other combined pill and put on cerazette because of migraines. Hasn't made any difference but they felt it was an unnecessary risk on the combined pill because of recent research showing an increased risk of stroke for people that suffered from migraines.
(I get Immigran for my migraines and it's brilliant).

I wouldn't put too much faith in that rumour.
Even if they do withdraw that one I'm sure there are very similar alternatives for people like us who do well on it.

I had this exact problem last month, but was told it was actually due to a contaminated batch from the drug manufacture plant?? Its also the most expensive pill to prescribe and my local PCT has stopped sexual health clinics prescribing it, only GP's in my area are able to prescribe.

Fingers crossed for its continuing distribution on the NHS.

In the meantime, thanks for all the Mooncup (and others) posts, am seriously considering the idea now, having before today been so very very against the idea.
  • I'm another Mooncup fan. It is so easy and no worry about leaks. I sometimes forget to check it because I literally can forget as there's no tell-tale string to remind me.
