what's happened to the ticket?

O/H got a police parking ticket early September 09 for unneccesary obstruction. He disputed it as he couldn't see how he was obstructing anything and took photos.
The ticket was also undated - the police officer had omitted to fill in the date. O/H told the police this when he disputed the ticket but they said it makes no difference - the ticket's still valid.
When the 30 days had expired, he got a letter from the police saying they'd give him another 30 days to pay. O/H ignored this.
Since then - end of October 09 - he's heard nothing.
Can he assume someone has ripped up the ticket? He still has his copy, undated of course. Or can the police still come after him 15 months afterwards?

Have you moved house since?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Assuming you haven't moved did you officially appeal or just ignored the ticket then the NTO?0 -
This post is confusing, I assumed that you don't get reminders from the police only "get down the courts Son". Why ignore a police FPN? Dates on fpn's are usually classed as immaterial afaik.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

The police rarely if ever send out reminders - the fact that you got one is probably the exception that proves the rule. The next communication from them will, in all likelihood, be a summons. The effect of this will be to double the cost of the original FPN by the time you add court costs and the victim support levy to the total if the O/H is convicted. Not the wisest of moves I have to say. Attempting to defend any matter involving the police at the time is always difficult. Let's hope that the photographs they took provide something of a defence. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -
Its the 15 months thats possibly helping to confuse.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

That's very true - glad someone's brain it working at normal speed. As you've said, has the OP moved? My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).

No, we haven't.peter_the_piper wrote: »Have you moved house since?0 -
What was the correct title on the ticket? Most police don't do parking tickets and issue fixed penalty notices. If the latter it may well be best to ask on pepipoo.com. Normally its best/cheapest to just pay but as this has been ignored for 15 months I'm at a loss to suggest something which could have legal ramifications.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

We did officially appeal if by this you mean sending a letter explaining that we could not see why there was an obstruction, and filling in the part of the ticket saying we wanted it to be dealt with by a court. Next communication was the letter giving us another 30 days to pay which we did ignore.
O/H thinks as the ticket was undated anyway, if it went to court and he was asked did you cause an obstruction on the date in question, he could rightly say he didn't know what date was being referred to. At the time an elderly relative had just had an operation and he visited him in hospital every day for 6 weeks. It was in one of the surrounding streets that the ticket was issued. He genuinely now can't remember the date.
Just wondered if there's any cut off period of time after which they can no longer chase us up for the ticket?0 -
So it was a FPN. AFAIK dates on these are immaterial but please do as suggested as they do have legal bods who can give you help, I really can't.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
