Does anyone know why O2 are doing this ?
You are all basically taking advantage of a loophole (I won't tell work, don't worry!!). The system should check whether you have upgraded to a new phone, but this is not the case 100% of the time.
The offer is, if you buy a new phone and stay with o2 they give you a discount off a handset or an amount in calltime credit, which is added to your current sim and current mobile number after 14 days. The tariff you are on stays the same.
The handset discount (max £100) is established by obtaining the average of your top ups over the last 9 months. The call time credit is established by adding £5 for every £50 you have put on since you connected or since you last upgraded (whichever is most recent)
You can use any new sim to do this, it doesnt matter what picture was on the front cover (that just relates to it's issue date but has no other relevance). This new sim, with it's new number, will get disconnected.
But as I mentioned in a previous post, doing this means that you will not get a handset discount (if you wanted one) for at least another 9 months. Some high spenders that are claiming £50 could find that they are missing out on £100 discount off a new phone!!
Hope this helps.... if you need further info I'm happy for anyone to PM me.OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -

So are you saying if the pack is an old expired one it still will work even though the number will have already been disconnected.

billsavings,
It has to be a live SIM, the disconnected SIMs you have won't work as they have been taken off the systems. Therefore they won't be valid for this "deal".CPW Retail
