I am confused between the mention of dieting on the one hand - and wanting to keep things of a more fattening nature in to make biscuits on the other hand....

I DO also wonder why Slimfast is being used when there are perfectly decent well worked-out diets available "on the market" - Slimming World and Weight Watchers for instance. Both those diets have been carefully worked out and there are meetings one can attend as well for support/advice. I cant see why anyone would want to use anything other than one of those 2 plans - and definitely NOT Slimfast...

I was really confused by that too.
The boys are far better eating a few nuts & dried fruit raw as they are, rather than turned into cookies:huh:

I'm not sure, after reading through this a couple of times, if the child taking the food is actually eating it himself or not?

And if not, what is he doing with it?
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

I'm pretty sure he's eating it.

The OP hasn't actually said so, just that he is taking it.

The bit about him being caught stuffing food into his bag struck me as odd. This sort of suggests he is hoarding it, not stuffing it straight into his mouth?

I've no comment to make on this, it just puzzles me.

Yes - that was posted nearly 6 months ago - I've updated that thread - he's lost the weight and doesn't take nearly as much food as the older one. I have two sons in this relationship BTW - the older one is the one who is stealing food (and money, when I have it in the house).

I know Slimfast isn't ideal - but it's working for us, there are 3 of us who are over weight in this house, and between us we've lost about 6 stone in 6 months. We have such a large weight problem that professionals have told us what us adults have achieved is nigh on impossible to achieve by yourself. I am a size 28, but I can still bend down and touch my toes (aged 50!)

If there are three of you in the house that are overweight there are definatly some issues with food.

This can be managed more cheaply and more healthily than slimfast . As soon as you come of that ghastly stuff your body will stockpile all the nutrients it needs again.

Switching to low fat cooking , with plenty of Low GI foods , brown rice , brown bread , flour etc, more veggies and pulses on the plate rather than meat. More high Omega Oils fish would be a whole lot better for you. That combined with an exercise regime to suit you even if its just running up and down the stairs is farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr more effective and long term than slimfast.

I would be highly concerned if a dietitian even mentioned a mass produced chemical packed product than a proper diet. I would have been walking out of the office demanding my fee back, if not paid for by the NHS.

One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:

Raksha I'm 52 and can still do the spilts, handstands and cartwheels, sit ups, and cardio vascular excercise. Its because I still exercise that I am fit enough to do this, and have kept the weight off am still size 10 and have given birth to 5 children.
I'd be very concerned though at a child being given Slimfast without strict supervision by a dietician, doctor or qualified nutritionist. Its only a quick fix, this whole thing sounds like a contradiction in terms. I apologise for I mean no offence, but cant help feel that there are other issues here and this food thing has become the scapegoat.

And thatas woith hindsight because after reading the previuosposts and thread it did seem that food was the root of al evil, obviously not though, and think now its being taken because OTHER people set such store by food

My ex-partner had real issues about food. I have a previous post discussing the fact that he resented my son (not his son, and he contributed nothing to household expenses) having 3 slices of wafer thin ham on a sandwich. Was pretty soon an ex-partner. Food was just one of the many issues he tried to exercise control over - it did not make for a happy situation. I dreaded every mealtime and shopping trip, and eventually realised that life is too short to live with a dictator. Please, please think about your boys and how you can develop a healthier, more emotionally sound life

I would also be quite cross if there was no cereal left for someone's breakfast because someone else had finished it as a snack the night before.
or used up all the milk when you thought there was enough, or finished the bread at 11 pm after a hearty cooked meal earlier in the evening ...

We always asked out of politeness before snaffling any food. That's just normal isn't it? I don't remember anybody's house where it was ok to start just troughing everything in sight without checking in with the 'rents.

We both buy and pay for the food in our kitchen, but we still check in with each other before scoffing something beyond the plentiful basics.

Good luck Raksha. I hope you get to the bottom of all this.

I do too. I wouldn't dream of going to someones' house and just helping myself, either. When I used to see a friend, he would ask if I wanted anything. (but said that due to my diet requirements, he may not have anything I can have)
