I have tried a Mooncup but didn't get on with it. I had to cut the stem pretty much completely off so as not to feel it when sitting down, then when I came to remove the cup I really struggled.
That's similar to the issue I had - with the mooncup being so long I always felt it! Since switching to the MeLuna I don't feel it at all. If you wanted to try again then a different brand may work for you. The MeLuna also has different styles - I have the basic which has no stem, but they also do a ball or a ring attachment which you might find easier. You can also choose a colour!

  • I'm one of those unfortunate people that has to wear both pads and tampons due to a ridiculously heavy flow :( pads put my mind at ease in case I am ever caught short! I have to use super plus tampons for the first 4 days of my period and still wear pads as extra protection.

Always are the brand for me, rarely have a problem with 'bunching', and I really notice how good they are if I ever have to use a different brand!

I no longer have this problem...(menopause). I used to always wear just the cheap own brand pads (without wings) as I found them to be more cost effecient and more absorbent. Could never get on with tampons.

Just to address the mooncup issues - I took a long time to get used to it, but it has literally changed my life! It can overflow, yes, but you need to have a very heavy flow to do it as it holds almost half the quantity that would be lost in a 'normal' period. I used to be someone who used super tampons (changed hourly on heaviest days) and pads at the same time - and even then had occasional accidents. With the mooncup, I use a pad as backup on heavy days, but in the past few years haven't really needed that backup at all. I can usually go the whole day from morning to evening without needing to empty it.

In terms of comfort, I found I had to take the whole stem off, and round off the remaining stub to make it comfortable. I think they should make one without the stem! If it is uncomfortable to remove, it has probably formed a vaccuum. Just gently break that vaccuum with your finger and it will come out easily. I can't compare it to other cups, but I do find that it sometimes does sit a bit low and needs adjusting. I may investigate other types now they have been mentioned, though I believe some of them are made of latex which I am allergic to - that would be bad!!!

Anyway, back to the original post - I use always ultra with wings and find they don't tend to bunch up as much as some other brands. It is the wings that do it, I think. I also think the shape of your underwear might make a difference - perhaps granny pants are in order for a few days each month?:rotfl:
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

none - i had the implant fitted in July and haven't had a period since!!!

when they do come back i may consider mooncup - seems a lot better than using pads etc! :)

Currently Im using body form buts thats only because there was an offer on them a few years back and i now have a loft full of them! I tend to use both tampons (Tesco brand) and pads in the day, but i dont like using tampons at night, so its just pads. The moon cup is sounding good so im thinking of trying that, can you use it alongside a pad? the thought of leaking i guess would put me off, if you cant.

Yup, you can. But after a while you'll be able to tell when it's in correctly and how long you need between emptying in so you won't need to.

  • I started using the Mooncup a year and half ago and never looked back- and my periods got much better, no cramps now...I highly recommend it.

I used to use Always pads but then tried ASDAs brand Freestyle and didn't go back to Always.
Then I tried Tescos own brand. They don't have a name as such, just called Tesco Ultra towels and they are as good as ASDAs freestyle brand. I have a couple of very heavy days and these pads cope really well with the flow.
The main thing I find better with the tescos and ASDAs pads over the always pads is that the wings are smaller. I found when using always that the wings were nearly the length of the pad. Tesco and ASDA wings are a lot shorter which I find more comfortable.

Yes, it takes practice, but it is well worth it...

I so wanted to like my Mooncup. I had a huge struggle just to get it in, and then and even bigger one getting it out again. Whilst it was in I could feel it and it wasn't particularly pleasant. I've never got on with tampons either, so now I just use whatever pads are on offer.
