I don't understand how a mooncup could shorten or have less side affects to a period? The blood comes out the same way!

no idea, but before it would start, day one would be light, day 2&3 heavy, day 4 light and day 5 stoppin. Now I last 2 maybe 3 days steady flow for the whole time.

I too use a MeLuna. I had a mooncup but it was too long for me, so I researched and found the shortest. There are many different brands which are all slightly different. As it's a money saving site, the MeLuna is also cheaper!

Cups aren't great for people who have a lot of clots though. I found that my clots were so heavy they dislodged the cup and things got messy (sorry if TMI).
  • Natracare for me. No plastic, no chemicals, and biodegradable. I started using them in May and haven't looked back, even the pantyliners are much better than Always/Bodyform. They are a little more expensive (13p per pack) and I have them delivered which costs but buying in bulk offsets this.

I don't think they do Jen. I was lucky as I was on holiday near Totnes which has an outlet of the online shop I use, greenlife. So managed to buy a couple of boxes without paying postage costs. I know some Waitrose's stock them but its a bit hit and miss. I hate using 'old' pads when I have ran out of these :o
  • I've always wondered... Can a mooncup 'over-flow'?

Sorry had to ask. I always have images of it filling up with too much blood and leaking out everywhere? And that can't be pretty if you're wearing a skirt. Argh!

I know i'm being graphic but can anyone answer my question?:rotfl:

Sure it can but surely thats no different to any other form of sanitary protection, a menstrual cup (mooncup is just one brand) won't just spill everything out if its full, you would just get leaking like you do with anything else.

As there is no risk of toxic shock its actually safe to leave it a lot longer than a tampon (for safety reasons) or a pad (for cleanliness). My periods are fairly light nad i can leave it 24hrs before changing it if need be witohut any leaking.

I used to use Always pads but then tried ASDAs brand Freestyle and didn't go back to Always.
Then I tried Tescos own brand. They don't have a name as such, just called Tesco Ultra towels and they are as good as ASDAs freestyle brand. I have a couple of very heavy days and these pads cope really well with the flow.
The main thing I find better with the tescos and ASDAs pads over the always pads is that the wings are smaller. I found when using always that the wings were nearly the length of the pad. Tesco and ASDA wings are a lot shorter which I find more comfortable.

I have tried a Mooncup but didn't get on with it. I had to cut the stem pretty much completely off so as not to feel it when sitting down, then when I came to remove the cup I really struggled.
