Sat/Sun 18th & 19th Dec 2010 - What small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free! :money:

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.!

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

Morning all. Ciamar a tha sibh?..up at silly o'clock (it's just too tempting to get up @ 4 when everything is quiet - even though too many days of it and I get sick :(). Got a little done yesterday and bought Mung Dahl from the cheap asian shop for just over £3.50 or something so that should last a wee while :J

Off to blitz this lift this am.......I don't think the laundry room opens till about 7 so won't be able to blitz the lobby till then but once I'm dry from my shower aiming to thoroughly wash the lift down etc. Should be done dv by 6am ....it won't last long with all this snow and ice but if the cleaners can't be bothered to come in then I'll do it ...

You never know it could lead to a wee part time job?

Anyhow burn is looking good (SI did the other week). Very happy I'm self treating with dressings @ 25pea from Mr M that I change when I shower and wash my hair 3x a week. It was a bit flufffy (clinical term) but I soon got that off and it's looking good .. Yay dressings are cheaper than docs and checking it (and less hassle in this weather) cos I'd be @ the docs x2 a week right and there's a starbucks right round the corner from there so 2x75p = £1.50 a week where as dressings = 75p a week ..Only snag - have lost 14 AD's so pray I find them

Also done over 6" of no. 2 sock - yay and someone off the frugal board has helped me out with the SSK ....

Hope everyone is well

Here is my agenda for today :)..... I also did half an hour's gaelic on the BBC Alba site last night but was too brain frazzled to read any Boston (as in Thomas Boston the puritan) so like will have to get that done today. Really enjoying the Gaelic on the BBC Alba site and best of all IT'S FREE :t (Se. Is mise Erme. Tapadh sibh)

Good morning everyone. It's definately white outside! I'm at DD's having a "Grandma Day" and I'm glad I came over last night. She woke me at 6.15am to look at the snow - she's worse than DGD, who didn't want to look out of the window.

    Pippi and DNMS
    - I made butter earlier this year and of course the by-product is buttermilk, which I used to make scones. They were the best I've ever made, but also I could proudly say they were HM scones with HM butter and HM strawberry jam :D

A quiet Saturday will be followed by a manic Sunday. So far I have:
    • finished a sock monkey to post to a friend's daughter
    • checked banking - not too bad but still two bills to pay
    I will also:
    • wrap up and post sock monkey
    • walk down to village shop for milk and bread rather than taking the car
    • wash my hair here and use DD's hot water and shampoo ;)
    • DD getting a couple of bits from Mr T with her shopping to save me an extra trip
    • knit more of DGS Christmas present
    Tomorrow:
    • clean out chickens
    • make sausage rolls with HM rough puff pastry and freeze them
    • make more vanille kipferln and HIDE them this time
    • make DD's last 2 presents and work out how to wrap them
    • make 2x gift hampers of HM goodies
    • start to do the pre-christmas clean (DH wants to shampoo the carpets on Monday!)
    • finish DGS present and start knitting DGD's - did I say I was a little behind with these?
    • re-jig my budget now WTCs are being paid :j
    • have an NSD
Oh dear, that's quite a lot isn't it? Trouble is, I can't do much of tomorrows list now as I'm not at home. Still, I'll convince DH to cook the dinner and let me spend the day in the sewing room :T:T

    HM scones

    2 cups sr flour
3/4 cup milk (sour is best but normal milk fine, butter milk brilliant :))
    2 tbsp sugar
    1 pinch salt
    1 oz butter/marg

    oven hot - 200oc

    Oven on

Mix flour and butter - rub in and make breadcrumb texture
    add salt sugar
mix in milk with a knife (minimal mixing)

Turn out the very soft dough out onto a floured table and turn over once to cover in flour - if mix is a bit sticky - toss over a couple times to cover in flour
gently cut out shapes about 12
(more you work the dough the tougher the scone - so minimal touching - like its toxic or something yuk on your fingers)

    onto a floured tray
give a milk/egg topping if you want to have shiny top (I don't bother)

oven for no more than 12 mins
(check middle scone by opening it up - wrench it apart don't cut it - if it look
(check middle scone by opening it up - wrench it apart don't cut it)
cooked take them out if doughy another minute or two)

    Onto a baking rack
into a basket or into plate cover with a tea towel to keep soft and serve

Don't keep more than a day really and you can add sultanas during the dry mix stage (after the breadcrumb bit) but they are evil so why would you commit that crime?

I've just cleaned the lifts and like the lobby floor (don't think they'll stay clean for long) and had smears all over the metal lift (any frugal ideas for that?) but at least they're done...No cleaners yesterday so had to be done.... Also didn't get the water hot enough from the laundrette so like I pray the floors on the lobby drys quick enough so no one slips cos I had no signs (being an unofficial cleaner)...Should have done it at 7 but I didn't start it till 8.30 and it took me an hour ......Just two wee lifts and a lobby floor :(

Anyhow at least it's done now...so just had breakfast and now time for morning espresso...Ciamar a tha sibh? (go to the bbc alba site for a translation - unit 1)...

    Mar sin leibh.....(again that's gaelic :D)
