I hate wrapping - anyone else use this solution?

If there's one thing I am utterly hopeless at, it is wrapping gifts. I equip myself with steel ruler, sharp scissors, top quality paper and bows. Nevertheless, my efforts still resemble those I made for the first Christmas I bought presents for, age seven.
The invention of gift bags was greeted with joy by me, and I've used them happily.
However in recent years I've decided to go for a greener solution. It was my son -in - law's birthday this week and he got his presents in a sturdy little shopper that my daughter can use.
The designer Orla Kiely (sp) has produced some jute and canvas charity bags for Tesco that are really attractive. They aren't particularly Christmassy but some tinsel wound round the handles will solve that. My best buddy will get her presents in one and so will my daughter.
If someone is looking for an alternative to a child's stocking, Tesco have very cute little jute bags that are being sold to raise money for Clic Sargent.
Anyone else use this solution at birthdays/Christmas? Have you spotted any shopping bags that would be ideal?

    nope, i quite like wrapping
this year i have used brown paper and string, and will attach a little clip on owl decoration to the label

if you dont like to wrap, just plonk the gifts in a gift bag and cover with tissue paper:)

I have done hampers this year, so just put them all in box/bag/basket and wrap in cellophane. I dont leave all my wrapping til last though as I hate doing that. I have seen those little bags in Tesco and they are really cute!

My solution is to get hubby to do it.
I do hate it though as it's such a waste - you buy paper only to have a gift in for 3 seconds then rip it up and bin. :/
I do have small kids though and for them unwrapping is still a great source of joy and excitement so for now - wrapping paper it is.

  • aah its different when you have little ones
    you HAVE to wrap then,

mine are teens now, and the presents i put in bags like above are for my elderly aunties etc
  • I hardly ever wrap presents for my MIL as she is addicted to jute bags! I usually get her one and put her presents in it and she always uses them afterwards. For her birthday this year, she got one that said "Grandma Is Cool" on it from my little boy with a photo album and some drawings he idi in it and the she loved it! The bag goes everywhere with her, even though we don't actually call her Grandma!
  • Im 24 and still wrap presents its a total bit ch to do and im left handed which I think makes it even harder!!

I don't mind wraping but have got PVC totes for MIL for birthday and chirstmas - one had cats on and the other a goose (which she likes).
You can pick up loadasof reasonable reusable bags by searching for PVC tote on ebay - if its not used they can be washed.
Just add a fancy bow or some ribbon - and they also have a bag to reuse.
Mind you I do keep gift bags to reuse - seems too much of a wash to throw them.

    Love the bags midnight.

I use to use old xmas cards as tags when I was younger, me and my gran would sit with the pinking shears and cut all the lovely characters out of the cards :)

I have made hampers this year and all the boxes are reusable :)

Got a Tote bag for my mums.
