Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 16th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Been awake since 3.30am with DD. Feeling tired and a wee bit grumpy
I forsee a nap later on.
Plans for today are to clean the kitchen and flick a duster round. Tea tonight will be chicken chow mein I think, not had it for a while and I remembed to pick up some noodles when I went shopping.
Here is a wee tune to get you going this morning

I reckon Roy Wood must be living quite nicely off this one song
Jackieg - Not had any requests for snowman soup etc lately x
Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a good day OS or not.

Morning all(one) and those to follow.
I got up at five to do some revision for my exam today, now this is commitment! Thought i'd give the classic "coffee and cramming" a go, hopefully it'll get my brain in stats mode. Now that i'm reivising it makes me wish i'd done more revision in the last week, but then i remember i was busy with my presentation! My presentation on tuesday went quite well, one of the lecturers asked if i was reading from something on the screen that didn't show up on the projector because i was so fluid and he wanted to use itNo" umms" for me!
Think me and OH are having piles of roast veggies for dinner, i got a reduced roasting pack with spuds, stuffing, marinade and we have lots of carrots/parsnips/squash to eat. We're now in "use everything up before xmas" mode.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

Might I suggest Mind Maps for your revision (assuming you have time for this). A lovely lady on the DFW board is a mind map world champion and apparantly this sort of work is the best way for the brain to learn and retain information.
Just google images for mind maps to give you the idea. They should be as bright, colourful and with as many pictures as you can manage. Good luck with your revision and well done on your presentation.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Thanks for starting Bitsy and hope you get a nap later. Been a noisy night here with the wind whistling around the house - and knowing it is the arctic wind the forecasters have been harping on about I'm a wee bit cautious!!
Have decided to make leek & potato soup for tea. Went to Mr T last night (eventually remembered to spend my vouchers!) and got loads of oops'd brown bread rolls and crisps. I store these for packed lunches for the children so come January I'll be ready. Also managed to get OH a nice warm oops'd chenille cardigan - it will look so much better than the fleece he's been wearing non stop - and it means I can get the fleece washed (!!!).
Nothing much OS wise apart from the soup today - am out for a christmas drink this evening with the PTA and then tomorrow am guest at the school for their carol concert (aaahhhh!). On Saturday I'm going to start going through the house like a dose of salts - it needs a good clean. I'll also walk the dogs a couple of times a day - good for them and for me.
Anyone know when I should get my 3.2Kg Turkey crown out of the freezer for eating on CHristmas day? I was thinking Wednesday. Off to find L&P Soup recipes, mine must have blown away on the arctic wind. Happy Christmas xxxxMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
bitsy, i'm not sure it would work with my subject as there aren't really any pictures or ways to make it brief
i just have to practise to get comfortable with methods.
Is anyone else looking forward to xmas sales? Online sale shopping is a bit of a tradition in my family, while the turkey's cooking the fam have a quick browse online and Dad fits the bill
OH wants a coat for christmas and has seen a few he likes, but I just know one will be in the sales and I'm considering suggesting we go shopping to get him one then as you'll get so much more for your money then. I think it'll go down okay? Head into central london for a manic shopping day
We had our electricity bill for nov/dec yesterday, £120 for the month! £60 of this was from storage heaters used by our two other flatmates and thank god they pay it all! Our electric was £50 before the cold hit :rotfl:Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

Morning all
Cold here & damp today.
I was falling asleep at 9 so went to bed & was up again just before midnight, spent the rest of the night snoozing on the sofa.
Only 2 more days at work then I can start the cleaning onslaught on the house.
I saw the foster children again last night, we took them to a local nativity where they have real sheep & donkeys, no kangeroos though, 2 of the children fell asleep, but the oldest one was entranced, it was worth the drive & the trek across a muddy field just to see her face. On the way back she said 'Why didn't the donkey say 'eeyor' I told it had been trained to keep quiet so as not to wake baby Jesus. The middle child is very very shy & reluctant to make eye contact, but I managed to get a giggle out of him playing peep boo.
I need to have a rummage in the freezer to find something for tea, no idea what but there is loads of 'stuff' in there.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Hugs for Taplady
My tree's still not upIt is out of the loft though, so there's slight progress
I 'lost' about half a day yesterday, had to rush Boris to the vet then feed him with a syringe every hour.
Most of my new kitchen is in my brother's garage, mr tru has to go to Ikea in Cardiff to get 2 of the units, Bristol had sold out. Wanna see my fab new sink? CLICK, and here's the TAP.
So, I have to clean out all the animals, put the decs up, scrub the bathroom (still haven't done that) and damp-dust the house again. Hopefully I can get everything done by 5pm. Jump in the shower, nip into town with mr tru when he gets home from work, then on to a party _party_

Morning all,
Very mild here, 5 degrees, so no cold snap here, although we might get it tomorrow.
Off to work today, only 2 more days before we break up :T, really need a rest, so will be glad to finish, I have a sainsbugs shop coming on monday, so will just have to nip out for fresh bits on maybe wednesday, then thats me done. :T
Dinner tonight is bacon egg chips and beans, nice and easy, I need to do a wash tonight and hang it on the airer, need to get a loaf today too, as I have run out, which really never happens.
Ok better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Good Morning All
Tru - that's one of my favourites
Cold here again too. House is warm though and very peaceful at the moment. DS has gone school early so he can go to the gym (mad boy) and DD has no school so won't be up for a couple of hours. OH worked last night so is in bed.
Plans for today, few hours on 2nd job, paperwork, washing and ironing. Have decided on a nice easy Chilli for tea - just need to remember to get the mince out of the freezer.
Think may make a start on my Xmas cards today - not one of my favourite jobs.
Better get going everyone, have a great day & (((hugs))) wherever needed.x0 -
Good morning campers ,well its mild here as well if 5c is mild I guess.I have my fingers ,toes and everything else crossed that we manage to get up to Liverpool this week-end.The boys are getting very excited about it.
its DGS Ben's 15th birthday today .where have those 15 years gone .It only seems five minutes ago when my OH used to call him 'the slug' as he would crawl commando style across the carpet depositing milky dribbles in his wake.now he is about a foot taller than me and very blond and has all the lasses chasing him.
School run this morning then a quick college run with DGD Holly as a favour ,then I am hoping the Uni library is open so I can get some books about Joseph Bazelgette as my next essay is all about him and his work on the London sewerage system. I am hoping to get it done for when I go back in January .My first one about Southend has gone of to Canterbury so hopefully that one will be o.k.
Lots of little jobs to do today .picking up meds from chemist and making sure that my library books are back.If the white stuff does arrive at some point next week I will be housebound until it goes as I live at the bottom of a slope and driving up the road is virtually impossible.Walking is definitely a no-go as my joints don't work that well when the weather is nice and snow means I would be on my butt more than my feet
Still I am all fully supplied with bread and milk so it won't be too much of a problem.and christmas week one of the girls will come and get me if push comes to shove as I shall be toing and froing between their houses anyway.
Right well I'm off to have a big plate of porridge to warm my cockles up
Have a good day everyone and take great care out there
JackieO xx0
