A neighbour of mine with a child in a council house was evicted last year, over noise complaints, rent arrears etc. It does happen and is worth a try rather than putting up with it. It doesn't have to come to eviction, Environmental health can take people to court purely over noise nuisance. I think you'll find Councils take a tougher stance than you think.

fully sympathise, we have terrible neighbours. They have been there for three years ,but it feels like three decades. They are noisy, slam doors, put the washing machine on in the middle of the night (we live in a terrace so noise carries) and even sit naked in the back garden whilst pleasuring himself. Last year he decorated the back room in the nude with nor covering on the window. It was bad enough for us but the other neighbours little girl was v traumatised.
Thankfully they have gone away for Christmas and I hope that they decide to stay 12000 miles away.

Hope your situation turns out better than our

Not sure if that's legal. Did you have to crane your neck and do contortions to be able to view this or was it in plain sight? If he was easily visible by others you might be able to get the local copper to have a word, especially if children are able to see him. What a freak.
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.

I used to have awful neighbours when I owned a flat in Essex, first there was the girl next door who had her friends round at midnight for a fight or two.....she was evcited after I found out who her landlady was and complained.

Then was the guy downstairs who decided to play his music full blast when I was sick with tonsilitis. I was desperate for some rest so I went down to him in my PJs, banged on his door and asked him to turn it down or I would be forced to take further action......he said ok without batting an eyelid and turned off the music. Bliss!

I now live in a cul de sac and our neighbours are so quiet you forget they are there!

Used to rent a flat in London.

Neighbour on my floor, partially deaf, abd bizarrely convinced he was the proper drummer for The Who, used to play The Shining at top volume every night.

landlord abovce used to dance and clap to his music for a couple of hours- very nice guy, and did try to keep it quiet.

Neighbours on bottom floor, directly below us were as quiet as mice- until 12AM on Saturday night. Then all their friends would pile in to the house- they'd invite us several times, and were pleasant. The party didn't bother me, but the man used to fancy himself as musician after a few- listening to one note being played over and over for hours on a banjo was not fun....
Then at 8 every Sunday morning, they'd row over who was cleaning up, and the next thing- Mariah Carey wailing through my pillow!

Lived there for a year, too!
  • I know this sounds childish, but get an even bigger dog to butcher them. I used to live next to noisy neighbours and it was hell. We moved and life is quiet. Believe me when I say this it is great to have silent nights sleep and we are thinking why didn't we move sooner. The council did nothing. When we confronted them it got worse etc.

We resorted to waiting until their nesbit drink and drug fueled party had stopped, you know when they past out and I put my newly purchase carnival speakers next to the wall at 5am in the morning and played their favourite song and some more of my heavy drum and base as full blast. We also banged around.

They thought twice about messing with me.

One thought that I had at the time and you will be wondering the same thing, what kind of life do they have living with those dogs? You can buy super sonic boxes online that humans can not hear but will hurt them and know one will ever know. The RSPCA won't be very happy with this, I guess its how far you wish to go. Keep up the fight and do not stop.

  • When I lived in a flat both my upstairs and downstairs neighbours were nocturnal. Upstairs it sounded like they were clanking chains across my ceiling all night and the woman downstairs used to blast out the Macc Lads at 3am, I also had the bonus of tripping over her/her 'paying guests' passed out in the hallway when I left for work in the morning. I only stood it for 6 months and was damned glad to leave, although I did gain some satisfaction in petty revenge until my contract was up!

  • any noise unreasonable noise made after 23:00 is against the law (not sure which one, but it comes under disturbing the peace or something similar). Of course you will be constantly hated for doing this, but the more times the police are called, the more llikely you will have a case for something to be done (not neccessarily eviction).

you can only really find out what effect it will have once you do it. For some people, they have things in thier house that they wont want the police to see. and an impromptu visit from them will drive home quickly. If you feel the rows are so heated that they are leading to (or could lead to) domestic violence, then they may react to the rumours that may spread.

No we didn't have to contort to look at all. We are in a Terrace so we can pretty much see most things fomr just standing in thegarden at the bins or in your house. We considered having a word but he is not the nicest of men and in the ned we let it be. If he does anything we see again though I will call the police. What joy they are...

I remember when I lived in a tower block, the neighbours above me drove me mad with the all night rave parties, after Months of complaints getting me nowhere, one Morning I snapped. I left work at 7.30am having had no sleep, so decided to put my hi-fi with a nice sub onto full blast, with just one track repeated over and over (it was either Agadoo or Birdy song cant remember which), this stayed on until I got home from work at about 6pm.

I never heard a bean from them after that ;)
