Thanks everyone. We had been told we would need IVF so it was a total shock! No I won't be at a time when I can't fly, it would have just been great to get something back to put towards now needing to move & we will need to spend a fortune on getting to the airport/insurance/parking etc. Worth a try..we may still go, Im just worried about feeling rough and needing the loo a lot! How should I be feeling at 16wks?
Congratulations!
Please take some time NOW to arrange your travel insurance. It does not have to be expensive, and this site has plenty of resources to help you find good value insurance. However, it is vital. If anything happens that means you can't go, insurance will cover you, but only after you have bought. And medical treatment in the USA is not only good but also very expensive, so you absolutely must be insured for the trip.
Oh: getting to the airport does not have to be expesnive. Again, this site is a good place to find out how to save money.0 -
If you already have insurance, there still MIGHT be a chance to cancel the holiday and claim this back, if your doctor advises against travel on the flight and to the destination, but will all depend on your medical status. If you decide to look at this option, look into it very thoroughly first, and consult with your doctor and the insurance company first before cancelling anything, otherwise you could end up losing the lot.
If, however, you decide to travel as planned, have a great trip.

If you have insurance you need to inform them now .
If you don't then they could load the premiums or even refuse to cover anything related to the pregnancy and that is a VERY big risk in the US.0 -
I agree with telling your insurers. Mine said 'pregnancy isn't an illness' and I said I knew that, but I wanted it noted on my policy that I was pregnant, and assured that any medical problems arising from pregnancy were covered.0

My friend had a similar situation when we booked our holiday to Spain last year - she fell pregnant and was really worried about travelling. Her insurance company were not very helpful when she tried for a refund so we went ahead and had a great time. She suffered from morning sickness but said it was great to be able to relax without worrying about chores and everyday things. When I was pregnant I seemed to have endless energy, much more than usual! Everybody is different and as long as you inform your insurance company there's no reason why you shouldnt relax and enjoy your last holiday before baby arrives!0

I went to Florida in December last year when i was 20 weeks pregnant and i had a brilliant time. Sure there are a lot of rides you cant go on but there are some rides you can go on. I really enjoying walking around the parks and watching the shows etc. I also spent a lot of time relaxing around the pool.
In March the weather hopefully shouldnt be too hot either. Plus most places do some fabulous non alcoholic cocktails.
I wouldnt hesitate to go again when pregnant its up to you, each person is different.0 -
Most people feel fine at 16 weeks. I was positively blooming, so it would've been a great time for a holiday! There's a lot more to Florida than the white knuckle rides in the parks and if you just do a couple of days in one or two of the parks it'll be way cheaper than a multi-day hopper ticket anyway. Epcot is great for just wandering round and most of the rides are pretty tame, and the theming in all of the parks goes way beyond the offerings of Alton Towers etc. Even the elderly and disabled seem to have a fab time just being there and going on the gentle rides.
It'll be a heck of a long time until you can enjoy a holiday again just as a couple, and think what you've saved on the IVF with your DIY baby! Congratulations0
