Just found out pregnant need to cancel hols!

Hi,
We booked a holiday ( hotel & flight) through expedia for March but I just found out Im pregnant. We paid £1000 upfront for Orlando and I wont be able to go on anything & need the money. Just found their terms say 100% no cancellation for hotels booked with flights. I can't believe this is fair as they are ABTA & can resell the seats in 4 months and they will get refunds from the airline and hotels and tax. (It also says you can't transfer names.) Any ideas??
Thanks

    Congratulations on the baby.

You would need to claim on your holiday insurance, did you take out insurance when you booked?

  • I don't really see what grounds the OP has to claim on her insurance; what were you suggesting?

If she was not able to go because of the pregnancy, if she was to far into pregnancy to travel and had to cancel would she not be able to claim on holiday insurance for cancellation. NOt becasue she just no longer wanted to go .

As long as she was not pregnant when she took out the policy of course.

Just rereading the OP maybe this is not the case lol late at night and did not read properly :(

Congratulations on the baby. Unfortunately I see no reason why they should refund you. Unless you're going to be past 28 weeks (slightly later with a doctors note) in March, there's no reason why you can't travel. Not being able to go on any rides isnt really a good enough reason to not go on the trip unfortunately.

  • Congratulations!
I'm not sure if you'll be able to get a refund though. We booked flights to South Africa just before I discovered I was pregnant, and I was almost 6 months by the return flight. It was really no problem (and you get to go to the front of the queue when boarding :D)

If you mean that you can't go on rides - well there'll be loads more to do in Orlando, and I found it great to have a relaxing holiday before all the sleepless nights began. You may find that baby stuff is a lot cheaper in the U.S. (sleepsuits seem to be particularly good from there) so you could recoup some of your money that way.

You won't be able to claim anything back if you did not book directly with the Hotels or Airlines they do not want to know and if the site/agent you booked through says no refunds then you won't get anything from them, we had the same problem when the volcano erupted earlier his year and we could not even fly to our destination. We eventually managed to get our money (£4,800) back through the insurance many months later, this was classed as an act of nature and back then insurance companies did not pay out for this.
Did you take out insurance at the time, what are the cancellation terms? Is there a reason you still can not travel, you should still be okay to travel when pregnant so why not still have the holiday and the much needed break before the baby comes.

Thanks everyone. We had been told we would need IVF so it was a total shock! No I won't be at a time when I can't fly, it would have just been great to get something back to put towards now needing to move & we will need to spend a fortune on getting to the airport/insurance/parking etc. Worth a try..we may still go, Im just worried about feeling rough and needing the loo a lot! How should I be feeling at 16wks?

Everyone is different, but other than a little morning sickness in the early months I did not feel any different or start to put weight on until I was almost 6 months.
Good luck and enjoy the holiday if you do opt to go :)

  • My son is now 7 and fascinated by what he did as a 'bump' :rotfl:
I've got photos of him next to lions and elephants, and on Table Mountain with a hyrax standing on his head!

Best wishes for your holiday - and chances are that you'll feel fine. You're going to a country with really good medical services, so there's no worries if you're feeling a bit dodgy. Remember and get a pair of compression socks for the flight and have a great holiday!
