I only have 5 days from today, i.e. until Friday 5pm to appeal...Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0

Yes. That's the first thing they'll check and if they are already advising him, they'll refer you on to another firm. If you have legal cover on your insurance, they may well pay for any firm you instruct rather than tying you in to their recommendation, but do check first.
Thanks Nicki. That was a concern. I've just realised that I haven't eaten since 6.30am!!!Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0 -

Some people get confused by what this means, what I study etc. As I don't specialise in employment law I don't feel the need to quote it - but my colleague DOES specialise in that area, hence the need for me to quote his views and not mine.
Actually - I had one man today ask me questions about immigration law and I quoted to him on the phone (before he'd made an appointment) - well I reiterated to him, what my boss would tell me to say, ie that if he expects his S Korean GF to stay in UK the easiest way would be marriage, not engagement, marriage.
I and my colleagues are actually taught a lot about various laws and what they mean and it is explained to us in a *man on the street way*.
I have even had a lady who is using us for her divorce, use us,because I quoted a specific document which we draw up and which could be done in her case. If the public see the solicitor that's fine but we have to quote eg our conveyancing fees and what a conveyance entails.
Why do you think I studied at evening class an ILEX course to be a legal secretary where the law is studied in depth, albeit at a secretarial level?
You sound like someone trying to put me down because I want to express my own views on this.
I am no legal eagle but you have well slipped up here.
S/he would have to apply for a finance visa providing he has enough money to support her, and trust me that is NOT just a couple of grand. She would have to prove the relationship by letters phone calls visits of a reasonable length of time plus on a regular basis.
If the visa is granted then they would have to marry within 6 months.
...............and not forgetting a fianc!e visa from south east Asia or now any part of Asia is not £90, you are looking at £500 +
this is all provided they haven't overstayed a visa or tried to return to the UK for more than 6 months in any 12 months period.
Most visas are refused especially if the granting official has any belief that they are going for the British Passport. The do now also take into consideration what job if any the applicant does.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

Sorry I dropped off for a moment there, you were saying?
She basically needs to do some research first.
If the guy in question does marry this friend of his with out going through the correct channels s/he will be deported and wont get back in this county again for at least 10 years.
Gwen, I apologise for going off topic, the post in question got my hackles up as It's an area I know very well as I live in Thailand for 2 years.
I hope this goes really well for you and in the end he gets what's coming to him be it via work or the law.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

And what if they get married outside of the UK?Not Again0 -

There are many who marry in their country to a UK citizen but not all are granted a visa. Basically marriage does not in any way grant you access to the UK.
Unfortunately some who are genuine have quite a fight on their hands.
Everything changed when they opened the door to, is it eastern Europe, before that it was far easier.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

I am not currently a member of a union. Do you think I can join one now or will they only assist me with cases that occur after I've become a member?
Depends on the Union.
A lot of people HAVE joined unions "after the event" and I would think it likely that, in the circumstances, a Union would probably accept your membership now - even though its "after the event" in this case.0 -
Gwen,
I think that if you joined a Union they would not take on any historic issues but as Hugo pointed out would help you with any further issues should they occur so you may find it would give you a little peace of mind. At least make contact a Union to ask a few questions to help you to decide whether to join.
LIke I said - it depends on the Union. Its really pretty much down to individuals on this. How it works with my employer is that the Union Reps tend to make a judgement call to let the person join the Union at that point (even if it is an "historic issue") - IF it relates to an issue that has general relevance to the whole of the workforce (ie the issue concerned is one that is affecting/might affect the workforce as a whole - and not just the one person concerned).
In this case I know my Union WOULD definitely let Gwen join at this point and pursue this - because of precisely that (ie sexual harrassment is something that affects a lot of other people in the workforce besides Gwen and the same sex-pest might "have a go" at other women in that workplace).
GWEN - You might well need to "go over the head" of your local Union Rep on this - from what you said earlier about them being "involved". You might possibly need to go to Regional level of your Union - I suggest you find out the contact details of the Regional office of your Union and give them a ring and explain the circumstances of what happened/why your local rep has "involvement" in this (hence you are ringing them).0 -
This webpage might help:
http://www.worksmart.org.uk/unionfinder/
Having found the name of your Union - check out its webpage. Somewhere on its website should be a list of its regional offices with contact details.
Depending on which Union it is that you are in - they might also have a specific Womens Officer (ie at national level) and, if so, she would be likely to "go for the man like a terrier after a rabbit".0
