Have a good time, Amsterdam is blo ody brilliant.

Irish pub, O'Donnells, just round the corner from the Heinekein museum (which is definitely worth a visit, I wasn't sure it would be but was pleasantly surprised!) does an amazing fry up if you're after one!
  • We went for Valentines weekend last year. We visited Anne Frank's. Waited for ages in the snow, I am not normally interested in history but found it really interesting. We booked a tour of the red light district, Randy Roy's red light tour. Female guide (Canadian I think). She was great and the tour finished in a really strange, but good little bar. As for food, we ate at The Seasons restaurant following good reviews on Trip Advisor. It was amazing. The meal was absolutely flawless and service was great. Enjoy.

I've been to Amsterdam twice, love the place! Another vote for Anne Franks house if it is of interest, it was still as humbling second time around! The Sex Museum is brilliant, I have some great pics of friends "sat" on various objects! We also did a Canal Tour and wondered around the Red Light District, felt safer there at night than I do back here! The city centre is a short hop on the train from the station at the airport so not much travelling, Have a great time!

If you know the history of Anne Frank and have read the books and diaries then it is worth the visit. However, it is very sobering and quite upsetting. It is well presented and sensitively done, but it really does bring back the horrors of what went on in the war. As others have said go early otherwise you will have to queue.

The Brewery tour is OK too and the Sex Museum is not too bad. More titilating with lots of dodgy photos etc than a serious museum looking at sexual politics / anthropology or history etc. If you are of the timid / squemish nature however give the extreme section a miss.

We didn't do the Red Light District (we used to live in Antwerp and they have an extensive one there so seen it all before - it is actually the Blue Light District in Belgium).

Also, I love the Dutch, worked with a lot of them and I speak a fair bit of Flemish (Belgium Dutch dialect), but most of the food is vile. We have had some nice food in good restuarants, but generally it is almost unedible. I have been to a fair few places in the Netherlands and it is pretty much the same wherever you go.
