What would have happened if the "seller" had posted the single piece of lego in an appropriate size box for the listing, padded out with packaging to make up weight and correct postage for the item as described? Would a buyer still be able to defend themselves against that, please?

Yes, because they still didn't get what they paid, for so can open a SNAD. Buyer would still need to return all that crap, but they would get a refund.

(OP, my point here is just theoretical, nothing to do with your case, I'm on an ebay learning curve, trying to get my head round the various scenarios.)

So on the other hand, a seller could sell that genuinely and if a dishonest buyer said only one piece was received, they could in theory keep it all, return one piece and get a full refund?

Interesting, I imagine a seller could describe a lego brick in a box as a "box of lego", I would be weary of how such items are advertised.

Hadn't thought of that one! I meant a genuine seller could sell a large quantity of lego and buyer could say only 1 piece was received and get a refund. The alleged original scam in reverse, if you like.

Ugh, I think you should leave a negative. This is such a crazy story, at least you got a refund...and possibly a set of lego? We'll see :)
  • Have just received via Special Delivery the complete box set of lego, along with a letter stating it was the brother and saying everything previously said about them being away etc. Now what to do, DS desperately wants this, it is in perfect condition, and I won't get another by next weekend.
I know they or their brother tried to rip me off, but I am a decent person and am willing to pay for the set mainly because of my DS. I could I guess keep it for free (but would have a major guilt trip!), would I have any comeback if I sent him what he originally offered me £10 off for the "unfortunate incident", meaning he couldn't come after me for anymore?

If you really want to keep it, I'd suggest messaging the seller and asking them to send you an amended invoice less the £10 and P&P.

That way, nothing can come back to bite you on the bum, as you have paid the amount the seller has requested.
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...
  • I think I would be delighted to have you as both buyer and seller, good Karma is given as well as received. Happy Christmas.

if it was me, i'd keep it, for all the stress it caused you. and don't send any money, just an email thanking him, others won't agree with me, its just my opinion
wins so far:- absolutely nothing, not even an arguement:mad:
  • What stress? The only stress was being whipped up by the paranoid posters on this thread! Put yourself in the sellers position & just imagine for a minute what he is saying is true. If you want to keep the lego, pay the man. :xmassmile
