[STRIKE]Right now Vega is the best tablet for this price... There is also notion ink Adam available for pre order which looks pretty darn good... but no reviews as it's not out yet.... So either get the Vega or wait and see how good is Adam[/STRIKE]... as for WITS A81E - I was going to buy this one but then Vega appeared... which is more expensive but also more powerful and better supported...

UPDATE I had Vega and I decided to return it. Only reason for this was its screen... particularly very, very poor vertical viewing angle. It's so poor that it's impossible to use the device in portrait mode (coz one eye sees other colours than the other one, making everything fuzzy) and using it in landscape mode is possible, but it require you to hold it in the exact "good" position - you tilt it a bit and colors became distorted.
So now I think that only tablets with IPS screen are usable... And Adam - well, its viewing angles disappoints too, and there are also other problems - software bugs, not really good Pixel Qi etc.

"This is not an alternative for an Apple iPad or laptop computer which have much more functionality but at a much higher price."

Slow processor, resistive screen, Android 2.1... hmmm, it depends what do you want to do with it...
  • Apad M7009 China tablet pc.com is the one I bought just waiting for it to be delivered but it is just a Samsung Galaxy Tablet in a lower res screen. The Dropad a8 is another name for it.

I was looking for a tablet about a month ago, the reason being that often my wife jumps on the PC and goes Skyping to her friends and on Facebook etc and she can be on for hours, we also had a netbook but I wanted something I could just pick up and go on the internet, check ebay, check my emails etc without having to set a netbook up or throw the wife off the PC.
I looked firstly at the ipad and decided against it for the following reasons, I have no other apple products, it does not have any flash capabilities (you would be amazed how often you use flash on the internet!), you cannot expand the storage with an SD card or USB stick and it is costly.
I ended up buying an Archos 101 from ebuyer 16GB for about £280.
When it arrived I turned it on and it started up and connected to the internet (through my wifi instantly with no hassle. The first thing I did was load the Google marketplace, there is a video on youtube which shows you how to do it, it is not a hack, you download the app and just reboot your Archos and Voila you have the Google marketplace. I am a 50 year old non techie kind of guy and it took me 5 minutes to get it working. My first download was Adobe Flashplayer! This works great.
So I set up my emails (easy peasy) and everything worked great. About 2 weeks ago Archos released the firmware update to 2.2 (froyo) which took another 5 minutes and of course Google marketplace still works perfectly. I have downloaded apps, games, skype, anti-virus etc etc all without a problem (and free).
I have put a load of music on it (copied using a normal usb stick)and find it a pleasure to use, Archos are a media company and you can tell by the music and video capabilities. I have bought an SDHC card and loaded some DVD’s on it and this works well.
I must mention I bought the extra Video and music codecs from Archos which costs about £12, you download from the internet and it seems to play any video I throw at it.
I have a desktop battery widget and I charge up when it gets down to about 25% which I find is about every 3 to 4 days, so wifi is on constantly and I am recharging twice a week.
I bought a mini HDMI to HDMI lead to plug into the TV and you can use your TV as a screen and the Archos as a touchpad. This is good for videos but very difficult to use on the internet (I am always clicking in the wrong place!) but I may get a keyboard and mouse for it sometime and have a play.
It took me a week or two to get used to using a touch screen but now I love it, I prefer picking up my Archos 101 to using my PC. As I said earlier I am a 50 year old bloke not a techie but I cannot fault it.
If I can use it anyone can!
Any questions please ask and I will try and help.

The big problem with most Android tablets right now apart from the Galaxy is that they don't have access to the Android market as they don't meet the necessary hardware specs. Until the newer ones come out I think I'd be inclined to keep my money in my pocket. Even an iPad is a bad bet right now as the next model is rumoured to be due out in February.

    that is wrong

i have an archos 70 internet tablet and have android market loaded onto it with no problems.

dug123, I think Advent Vega is better in any aspect than Archos 101 (more memory, better CPU, better GPU, better support)... well, maybe your Archos has more storage, but you can always buy bigger memory card... Anyway, both Archos and Advent have very poor viewing angles - not good if you want to read e-books/comics/magazines on them

Hi, You could be right the Advent might be better but all I was saying is that I am more than happy with my Archos, if I could upgrade the memory or CPU I would not bother because the Archos performs great.
I downloaded kindle and to be honest I could never see myself using the Archos as a book, I read a couple of books a month but using a tablet as a book just does not seem right (to me) and I have not noticed any problem with the viewing angle, the Archos is so light I just hold it so the angle is perfect.
  • I got the Apad M7009 and it is awesome:j

I posted a thread about it already to suggest that this tablet is the cheapest and the best that I have ever come across at this price. So in other words at under 200 quid including shipping and possible taxed you should have change of 30-40 quid. Enough to buy the 16 gig micro sd card from Play.com for 16 quid and you have enough storage for films and music to last the entire of any holiday.

i can do a quick video if you want just send me a message
