Yes, I always leave out the milk powder and it seems many others on here do to.

Main tips from this thread seem to be - don't use the fastbake feature, try honey instead of sugar, you can leave out the milk powder, light crust gives the best result as the others seem to make it too dark, the recipes in the manual are not great but can be changed/adapted to improve them or use alternative recipes, the MR fastbake is better at wholemeal/granary loaves than white which can come out a bit 'cakey' and using the machine to make the dough and then baking in oven gives the best results. (Although the last one seems to defeat the point of having a breadmaker - I don't mind 10 mins of kneading, can be quite therapeutic in fact but my oven isn't working properly so i have to use the machine at the moment). Any other tips to add? (As this thread is sooooooooo long perhaps we could do a quick summary of the main tips, best recipes, etc?)

Out of interest which book do you have? I was thinking of getting 'Bread: The Definitive Guide to Making Bread by Hand or Machine by Sara Lewis' as it sounds quite good and each recipe has a version for hand baking and machine. I still think hand baking makes better bread (especially white) but I do love the convenience of throwing a few ingredients in the machine at night (using the timer) and waking up to the smell of a warm freshly baked loaf for breakfast. :D

Thanks..:T :D the book I have is one I purchased from a charity shop (£1.50!!)and it is called "The ultimate bread machine cook book" by Jenny Shapter. It really is good ,I got it to adapt for hand baking but after hearing such good things decided to get a bm. I think the recipe I have used quantity wise is for a huge loaf...as the dough is trying to escape my bm as I type...:rotfl: lol!!! Maybe I will stick to the small loaf recipes in future...:o

Took the bread out after school run and:j I am sooooooo happy my bread is yummylicious (even the top bit that stuck to the lid:o ) I cant wait to try some of the other recipes.............:D :D:D

Hi there, having found this great thread, I made lucasmums fluffy white loaf from the recipe she posted and it worked a treat. All loaves prior to this were far too cakey.

Has anyone succesfully made a fluffy wholemeal loaf? if so, could you possibly post the recipe and settings?

    Hope somebody can help,

    Ben

I make this one every other day for our 9 year olds sandwiches as it is the only brown bread she will eat.

    Small Brown Loaf

    286ml water
    250g brown bread flour
    125g white bread flour
    1½ teaspoon granulated sugar
    1½ teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon fast action yeast

I set it to small loaf, light colour and programme 1(Basic white)

    Quite easy to cut too.

    :)

    Hi Rossy,

I've added your post to the Morphy Richards Fastbake thread where you'll find lots of recipes.

The manual for the model I have (that includes recipes) can be found online here and here.

For more recipes not specific to the MR have a look in The Complete Breadmaking Collection

Ooh, I really want the Panny and I have been waiting for ages for someone who has used both! Do you mind if I ask you how much you paid for the Panny. I only paid £29 for the MRFB, I think it's ok but my kids aren't overwhelmed with the bread, but can't really justify getting another unless it really is loads better - do you think it's worth paying another £79 for the upgrade? I know it's my decision but your advice is appreciated xx

I bought the panny in my local currys for £50, it was the last sd254 in store and was reduced to clear, the sd 253 and sd 255 were both around £100, but they had a fruit dipenser which I wasn't bothered about tbh. currys don't have an bm's on the website, I just checked for you, so it would be best to check a local store.

The bread is loads better IMHO and I'm so glad I bought mine, the MR was ok but I recently had ended up baking the bread in the oven to try and improve it which defeats the whole purpose.
