I just wondered ... do you all use the vitamin c tablet when you make the granary loaf? I am not sure what benefit it adds??

    Thanks :)
  • Afternoon all.

My new competition win of a fastbake is being used well.

I've just made some pizza dough and am going to use it later, but quick question, whats the best way to store it now?
I've had to make it now cause I'm doing another batch (sister and hungry nephews coming later:rolleyes:)
Do I just leave it in a bowl or should I store in the fridge.

    Any advise gratefully recieved.

    Hi everyone

I have just dug my MRFB machine out of the cupboard, dusted it off and made a loaf today. It looks ok ie its bread shaped, it is still in the pan as it has just come out of the BM so when it is cooled enough to take it out I will see if it tastes ok. When we first bought it we had a large number of disasters and we just packed it away as a bad job. However, with the price of a basic loaf going through the roof I thought I'd try again. I am currently ploughing through the huge amount of pages on this thread, and see if I can get some tried and tested recipes. :rotfl:

Many thanks in advance of all the help and techniques I'm going to get from all of you fellow MR bread makers. :T
  • i too have dug out the bread machine recently (after a long long time) i started to give up on it a little when the stirrer/paddle bit kept getting stuck in my loaves of bread!!
mine is morphy richards fastbake (oldstyle the black and metal one) and today i tried making olive and rosemary bread rolls, i took the recipe from an old book and adjusted it a little

225g flour (i used a mixture of half wholemeal and the rest just white)
    1 sachet yeast (7 grams)
    teaspoon salt
    teaspoon sugar
    tablespoon oil
    150ml warm water

    dough setting

then i added black olives and fresh rosemary (i know you are meant to add it quite late if you dont want it chopped up into teeny bits but i added it early so the kids couldn;t tell!!!)

take out when finished and make into 6 rolls or whatever shapes you want, they look quite small, but leave for 20 mins before putting into the oven and you see how much they rise before baking,

i baked out 230 for 20 mins and they were perfect.:T
    totally a tog!:D

Shezza - you have to turn out the loaf asap, or you get condensation form in the tin and it goes soggy! I use oven gloves and turn out the loaf on to a wire rack to cool.

I've never used vitamin C tablets but apparently it strengthens the loaf and helps with the rising :)

  • Set up my MR this morning.
Control panel set, timer counting down, but nothing else happening.
So I have a pan full of ingredients doing nothing.
Can I rescue things (never made bread any other way)

Is it making any mechanical noise at all? If not...
Could you have accidentally set the timer going?

    If it is...
forgotten the paddle (easily done:o )

If the first then I think you can just turn it off and on again and put the start button on (our model defaults to programme 1)

If the latter, I know from experience that you can tip the ingredients out, put the paddle in and then do the above (might be a good idea to turn it off first though)

    Thanks Sou.
    Nothing mechanical working.
I've tried the switch off and start again twice - no luck!
