  • Sounds like my day Needshelp. I came home from walking the dog to bf saying the fridge/freezer was nt working, so que a 20 mile detour to work to stash freezer stuff at BF's parents and £279 order later and we're good to go. Oh and we can only get it Friday morning delivered unless we wait another week!
Debt free and busy treating myself:)

No more toiletries/make up until I've used what I've got stashed since Jan 2011, graduated October 2012. Restocked Dec 13..damn those sales

Gosh, isn't it quiet on this thread? Are we all busy buying CHristmas presents then? :)

I'm a bit disheartened because I know I won't manage to pay off everything by the end of the year (which is completely my fault - no emergencies or anything I can excuse myself with), but I still check in every day to see how everyone else is getting on! :p

I've already designed my spending spreadsheet for next year (complete with auto updating graphs to make it REALLY obvious how I'm doing, plus I've cut up my new card which was only supposed to be for balace transfers anyway but I've got spendy fingers :o, and am aiming to have that paid off for the end of January which is when the 0% interest on purchases runs out - so I'm hoping to only be a month or so behind where I wanted to be anyway, and am trying to nudge it ever closer (hello ebay free listings weekend!) but I don't post too much because I'm not making big payments, and when I make small ones I tend to bundle them together every so often and post them all at once anyway so it seems like more has been paid off!! :rotfl:

As a side note though, I'm very nearly finished with present shopping, only my OH to finish buying for and a box of chocs for my aunt and I'm DONE!! :rudolf:

Well I am not going to make my goal this year but it couldnt be helped and I am not giving up yet. I am trying to juggle between buying the odd little christmas gift and making overpayments. I am doing a sponsored ride for children in need this weekend which required a fancy dress and I have managed to put one together for less than £10. On the same day I cashed in £10 from one of the survey sites lol.

My balance half way through November now stands at :
    # 134 = £6,316 / £10,206
  • Don't get disheartened, we are all in a much better position than we were in January. I am already counting down to payday and got a nice suprise when the car repairs budgetted came in £70 cheaper (I am not going to think about the other £130 that I could have used towards CC if my bloomin' car hadn't bust! :rotfl:)

I am glad I joined this thread as 12 months ago, I would have had a coronary if I was made redundant etc . . . . . of course, I wouldn't be best pleased about it now, but I am certainly in a much better position now with my debt and mortgage.

Right, I am going to get down from the little miss positive podium! :rotfl:

Thanks - its always nice to know that there are others in the same situation and I too am really glad I joined the beginning of this year. It has changed my physical way of tackling money, my mindset and I cannot believe that I have thrown £6k at debt. I have learnt so much and had so much support from people like you so feel free to stay on your positive podium a bit longer  :D

It's true that this thread is a brilliant mood-changer and motivator. FOr the past three or four years I have slowly and steadily reduced our overall debt following these threads. It's such a long slow slog, but we haven't put anything on credit cards (apart from big stuff like holidays that we've saved for, so pay off the same month) in years now. One year we only made a net reduction of £1000 (had to buy a car, went on a big trip for our 40th birthdays), but it was still a reduction. We've still taken holidays and had treats because we have a small son, who is six, and I want to give him experiences that he'll remember for the rest of his life. They only want to holiday with you for a few years before you're suddenly too naff to travel with!

Next year is our big year. Next year we will finally be free from credit card debt. I'm so excited about it (and so is DH finally!). To the point where he is actually going to do a gig on Boxing Day because it pays a huge amount of money 'that we can pay straight off a credit card'. Impressive, huh?! THought I'd never get him to this stage.

Meanwhile we are having a frugal Christmas (decided to spend our money on the Lapland trip instead). Managed to negotiate with my old schoolfriends not to buy each others' kids presents this year (we have nine children between us ranging in age from 0 to 12) so that's a huge chunk of present buying we don't have to do. I've already got about half my presents; most of the rest will be things for DS's stocking.
