I've finally done it an paid off the last credit card. Well till they find £0.40p interest I owe them Like Barclaycard did!!
It's been a hard slog and when I started I seemed to be going backwards for so long.
Just 2 loans to pay off to clear my debt now and then maybe I can join the Mortgage Free Wanabees.
In a way it helped that there had been errors on my tax and pension payments (I'm self employed) so I had some nice lump some payments back in the last 2 months. But then thinking about it if I hadn't overpaid in the 1st place I might have paid back more at the time (I really was struggling some months)and paid less interest - so that had benefits and drawbacks!
In 2 months the bank loan is paid off then I can start paying back the Bank of Mum & Dad.
I will be free of financial institution debt by Christmas.:) This year I've leart to budget so I don't go back into that dark bad place I started out at.
Sadly Dad has been diagnosed with cancer and it's a more severe type so I was looking forward to 2012 but in a way I'm dreading it too.
Well done to you too! :T:T:T:T:T
Sorry to hear about your Dad though, fingers crossed all goes well for him."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
166million wrote: »On paper this leaves me with @£500.00 to pay off my debt this month, but I'm thinking I'll just leave it in my online savings account until the last possible moment in case of emergency.
Has anyone got any better advice for me? I know it's not strictly the place, but I am really getting bored with waiting and waiting for this to be slowly paid off! And this challenge has been a great help along the wayCan't decide if to take it with me to see if I can get a bit of money, or take it to the charity shop and start afresh straight away when I move? Any thoughts?
Sorry, guys, I know I'm days behindbut:
166 million - would you have access to the cash if you paid off something - i.e. credit card or overdraft? If so, I would pay it to that debt, then in a *real* emergency, you could still use the card/overdraft. If not, if it's a loan say, then maybe pay half and half? Like others, I need to overpay sooner rather than later as I tend to fritter otherwise.
Cakelover - I would say if you have anything of value, then take it with you and sell it. If it's very low value stuff, then I think maybe it would be better donating it rather than having the hassle of moving it all."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Thanks for the updates everyone. I'm rather skint this month, but Friday is payday so my last payments of the month will come out then.
Fingers crossed we hit the £500k mark!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -

Still plodding along and although I will not make the target by the end of the year, this challange has kept me going, so hopefully it will be repeated next year?

£35.78 off Barclacyard. It was actually m ore but I just discovered, to my disgruntlement, that BC don't take minimum DD payments if you've already made an overpayment that month. Isn't that annoying? So I thought I'd paid off more than I had. Bah humbug.0
