Hiya all, 171 checking in paid off another £200 yesterday - £5554/£7852
    • Mortgage over-payments to date: = £16,746
    • Original redemption date: August 2043
    • Current redemption date: July 2041
    • Debt: £15,930
    • Savings: £12,430
  • Well I've sent my daily £11.50 - I'm going to need to make some serious extra pennies in the next 5 weeks though to keep up with this!!
  • I have just come in and caught up with the new posts. I see that a few people are finding that they won't be meeting the target they set (including me); but just think, you started OPing in the first place when we could have all stuck our head in the sand and pretended it wasn't happening. :money:

The fact that we have come this far is an achivement . . . don't give up, do what you can and look forward to 2012 with less stress caused by debt :T

    Hi all,

Just wanting to second what Needhelpsaving posted. My target was also a stretch which even at the start i had no idea how i'd meet it :o Especially as my target is £10,000 and my wages from my full-time job are about that for the year  - so i also work part time although my hours are completely irregular for this. But i thought i needed to put down a target which would be a stretch and this challenge has really focused me - i can see what i owe and the total i've paid and keeping track of it is brilliant.

Anything i pay off this year is a massive achievement - and i think that goes for all of us. I'm looking forward to being a part of this thread with a new target for next year - everyone is really friendly sharing ideas and encouraging each other :T:T:T so thanks to all and to jwil for running this :T:T:T

Hi Jenny! Welcome to the thread. Please do join us! I've been very slack in updating this week, so I will add you properly in the week. Just set yourself a target for the rest of the year, update when you've made a payment, and join in the general chat! :)

Howdy everyone! Sorry that I haven't been updating properly. I will do so next week, promise!

I'm another who will probably not make my target, but I knew it would be really hard when I set it. Every penny that we've overpaid counts, so we've all achieved so much this year already.

With regards to Christmas, I don't buy for too many people, just DH and my very close family. I made an agreement a few years ago with friends that we wouldn't any more. They appreciated it as well as it is an expensive time for everyone. I'll try and spread my shopping over from the end of this month probably.

Hope you are all having a good weekend!

  • Hi everyone,

Good idea about the piggy banks clippy_girl, I think I'll try that next year if I can resist the temptation to open them!

As regards to people not meeting their targets, I really wouldn't worry about it as it's not the whole aim of the game really. I've been sent on a management course by my company and one of the concepts in it is a 'BHAG' a Big Hairy Audacious Goal, which is supposed to be something 'emotionally compelling' but not necessarily realistic.

A bit like us aiming for our 1 million pound pay-off target. As long as the goal got you motivated then it's done it's job and it doesn't really matter if you didn't get there. :)
