old style stereo

Just wanted some feedback/advice on selling something.

I have a hifi stereo the big ones that were all the rage about 5yrs ago. It has 3cd's twin tape deck. radio and a record player that can be detached. Two speakers which have a few specks of emulsion on them, and it is is good working order.

However it is now stuck under the stairs as it takes up a lot of room and smaller stereos are replacing them,

The question is if I put it in loot or something like that would I get any response, and how much should I put it in for. Or am I wasting my time? . OH says throw it but that doesn't seem very MS to me.

I have had it about 51/2yrs, but it is very good working condition and paid a bomb for it.

vinyl is big among some young people. my dd is a 'vinyl snob' and says that cds are rubbish...
so i'd imagine there is still a market for your stereo as long as it's got a turntable.

Personally would say that the style of hifi you are talking about was in fashion a bit longer ago than 5 years.

You dont mention what brand it is? Looking at closed auctions on Ebay the branded ones like Aiwa tend to go for £20-30 but only 1/2 or so sell at all (even with opening prices of £1) where as the budget brands like Bush or Goodmans tend to be £5-20.

There certainly is a revival of vinyl (and yes it does sound better than CDs ;) ) but generally speaking the youth of today are more looking for DJ style decks or just stand alone turntables - bang for your buck is much much better with turntables to the extent that you can buy a Pro-Ject entry level TT for under £100 and it will easily knock the socks off any CD player under 3 times its price.

Stick it on Freecycle rather than tip it if you decide not to sell it, I had a 20 year old Aiwa hifi and I got a lot of response. The problem with selling something big on Ebay is the cost of shipping, you can get an unbranded miniature unit for about £20 these days.
