I have paid my fair share of tickets and the common thread with them all was that I was aprked somewhere I should not have been ... and I knew it ... I can read, just decided to chance my arm. The only losers are the people who through their own stupidity, laziness or whatever are having to pay out £30-60 fines.
Accepting responsibility. Nice one Ivan. I got flashed by a camera for speeding four years ago. My own stupid fault for trying an overtake on a 30mph dual carriageway.

    Ivan,

You forgot to mention the people who are just too slow in returning to their car when the hour is up. Usually you can get away with 80 mins in 1 hour space. I never argue parking tickets I just cough up my £30. My congestion charge penalty appeal is still ongoing though. Blooming LT. Hotel told me verbally and its on their website that they are outside the zone. What they didn't mention was that if you follow their website instructions to reach the hotel you have to go through the zone. We went through 10 mins before it ended. When we arrived at hotel we asked them how do we pay it (living in Wales no info known). They told us to go to PO in the morning. We then found out you only have until 10pm on the day of entering the zone to pay the £5 after that its £10 until midnight and after midnight £100 penalty, reduced to £50 if paid within 7 days. They refuse to accept payment over the phone they have to send you a penalty notice (waste of more money and paper). We have appealed and the information they provided to the appeal hearing is fraudulent. Luckily as both of us are employed in the public sector we could prove this fact. We were told we only had 7 days to challenge their evidence back in November 2004. When I rang last week to find out why I hadn't heard anything told there is a huge backlog of appeals so it won't be heard for months yet.

    No I'm not a traffic warden.But I don't have a problem with these people.That
's probably because I pay the correct charges and don't forget to return to my car on time.Believe you me there are bigger problems in my life than parking tickets.ie should I give my children more pocket money now that they are earning more intrest on their savings?Should I make them pay a contribution towards a better holiday or if they want a special item?Should I dock them pocket money for not cleaning their rooms? Is it fair that when I do the washing up there always seems to be more to do.Should I let my 9 year old read what I am writing on this forum.Problems, what problems?

Oh you are so going to heaven. ;)

No definetely not - they'll end up richer than you :D
Should I make them pay a contribution towards a better holiday or if they want a special item?
    |Yes, Yes. In fact they should pay for the whole holiday out of their savings.
Should I dock them pocket money for not cleaning their rooms?
No thats going a bit far. Just dock them when they don't clean your room properly.;)
Is it fair that when I do the washing up there always seems to be more to do.
No absolutely not. Make them buy you a dishwasher with what is left of their pocket money.:)
Should I let my 9 year old read what I am writing on this forum.
They probably are already scouring your history file:eek:
    Problems, what problems ?
    There we are all sorted.

Double yellow lines are there for a reason - usually for safety. If your partner was parked on a narrower piece of road or perhaps near a corner then she could well have jeopardised someones life had an emergency services vehicle needed to get through.

They often put them down if there simply isn't the room to create a space so you'd have been shouting louder had your partner come out and find her door taken off in the morning!

It takes all of 10 minutes to park legally (and it's cheaper) and we all at some point have had a long and stressful day yet we still have to abide by the law!

We all make mistakes, learn by them and move on.
Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]

Gosh didn't realise that double yellows were there for safety reasons. I just thought they were to make sure that D***heads always had a parking space:eek:

Oops just remembered I sat waiting on double yellows today for 5 mins as there was nowhere else to wait and before you all shout at me it wasn't outside a school. :p

what i've found is that if you pull up at a pay and display and put the ticket in the window backwards you can 'sometimes' get extra time.
As you're not paying and displaying you'll probably get the ticket before your time is up. Then cos you've got a ticket you won't get another. If you got the ticket while you were legally parked just phone the council and they'll over turn it cos you did have the right ticket just too stupid to put it in the window properly

    ............

Not so. In many areas of London, and certainly in the Borough that I live in, there was a proliferation of single and double yellow lines. Then no sooner had parking enforcement been taken away from the Met Police, decriminaized and pased to the London Boroughs (in about 1994 from memory) who could pocket the income from the PCN's what happened? Many double and single yellow lines disappeared and mirraculously parking pays for P&D and meters appeared! Up until then the Council had always said it was too dangerous to park in those locations, it caused congestion, the roads were too narrow; you get the picture. But as soon as they could keep the income their attitude changed completely. Never was there a better demonstration of the bigotted, motorist hating attitude of most London Boroughs.

Not always the case, they will give you a ticket for 'failing to display the ticket correctly' - so even if you've got time on the ticket, you'll be liable for the penalty. Similarly with the Blue badges (you know the ones 'my granny got me this so i can park where I want'-badges), failkure to display the 'right way round' gets a fine.

BTW did you know there is a black market for the blue badges?
