potential abandoned car

this is to do with parking so i think it's correct to post this here.
there is a car parked outside my house in a residential road, no lines or permit so it's fine to park there. however it has been in the same place unmoved for about 4-5 weeks now which is very rare. i've knocked around at neighbours and no-one knows anything about it.
the fuel cap seems to have broken off and there is a dent/scratch on the passenger door. what's strange is there is a fitted car seat in the car and what looks like a removable radio in there. the road tax is until April 2011 so the council can't do anything about it as it's taxed but obviously it's a bit of a nuisance constantly blocking a parking space. it just appears as if it's been totally abandoned.
has anyone been in the same boat or has any advice what to do here?
thanks!

What do you mean by blocking a parking space. It's in a parking space that it's owner is entitled to use. Whether that's outside your house or their house 2 miles away they have paid the road tax and can use it.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

yes i know they can park there i just said it's a bit of a nuisance that it's blocking for visitors. i would be more concerned it's been stolen/dumped and that it's a fire hazard with the broken fuel cap.0 -
I think you're looking for an excuse here, I don't think the broken fuel flap will provide a basis for it's removal (unless of course it's leaking fuel).
It may be causing nuisance to you just by being there, but since it's not breaking any laws there's very little that can be done about it. If it's still there in April you may be able to do something, but until then, you'll just have to accept it.0 -
I would pop into the local Police Station to mention it in case it's stolen, which is possible due to the damage you describe.
Other than that, you have to put up with it I think.
Maybe a neighbour from another street is in hospital, just had a caesarean or other op which stops them driving for a few weeks, or maybe they are lucky enough to be on a long holiday. Or maybe it's broken down and they have no money to get it repaired right now, just before Christmas.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

It is annoying but as others have said if the car is taxed and insured then there's not a lot you can do. That said it is a bit strange that the car has been parked there for weeks on end so perhaps a call to the police might get a reaction if they're having a slow day!

I live near a guy who works away for months at a time. His car stays on the road for this time and I'm sure others have reported at as they deem it 'suspicious', although an inconvience to them at best!
Ask the local Police station if it's reported as stolen, if it's not it will stop where it is! Well, until April 2011 at least0 -
Pop outside with some matches when it's nice and quiet at about 4am...

Someone has legally parked their car in the road and you object because its got a dent in it? It has a car seat fitted, so maybe it belongs to someone with a young family? Maybe it needs repairs and they are struggling before Xmas.
This sounds to me like you are looking for excuses to try and get it removed because its outside your house.0 -
The OP came for advice , he/she doesn't need a lecture from you or anyone else on the forum, he'she has the answer now, I think its in fact rude and selfish for the way you have responded, word of advice to you, if you don't like the thread go somewhere else with your morals and opinions, because you are no good at being an internet trollExcel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -

And that's exactly what I gave the OP - my advice, stop worrying about it and get on with your life.
Others on this thread have suggested criminal damage / arson, at least I'm not suggesting breaking the law.
If anyone is the troll, its you, you have offered no advice to the OP and merely posted a reply intended to gain a response. Are you some form of self appointed forum police?0
