Nothing on there to indicate bad enough weather in Gatwick area to affect flights.

MetOffice still not showing any snow forecast in Gatwick area.

Honestly, I'd stop panicking - as previously advised go the night before if you're really worried.

TBH, if you book to fly mid-December you should really be prepared that the weather might not be fantastic,
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

prepared - agreed, but surely there is proof that the OP is prepared by asking this question in advance.

Apart from last year, we have not had such bad weather and so early in the winter for many years so I think the OP and I would not be alone in thinking the worst that would threaten would be some rain, wind and ice :)

    Fingers crossed!!

We will be flying out of Gatwick on Friday for an all inclusive holiday but it seems that the weather may turn for the worst...

We do have travel insurance, but when claiming for such incidents, how do you go about it? what information do the insurance companies look at? how do they decide that it is a valid claim considering if the airport is open but the roads to the airport are blocked or traffic jammed.
The reason I am really worried is that we are travelling with a child and an infant.

This was in The Sun which is not really a newspaper, more a sensationalist rag. Check the Met Office site for up to date and correct enfo.

Didn't TheSun also report that Elvis was alive and working behind the Deli counter in Tescos in Hemel Hempsted?

hansi, I heard he'd moved to the deliveries department...:)

OP good luck with flying out, only a couple of days to go, try not to worry, and as others have suggested it would take a lot of worry out of it if you booked a hotel for the night before - we do this most years now, the cost isn't much more than the price to park. Maybe something to consider for next time.;)

I would second that. We cruise a lot and fly fairly regularly from Heathrow, and always travel up the day before or as is the case for our next cruise, two days before. A little MSE tip. If you are lucky enough to catch the Travelodge early booking offers and are flying from Heathrow, stay at the one in Feltham. It has a 24 hour bus service to the airport which is half an hour away, and we have bagged £9 rooms!
  • I can understand your concern but I wouldn't be too concerned with what is forecast in The Sun

If you're really worried and have any distance to travel I'd think about maybe travelling to Gatwick the day/evening before and staying overnight.

The met office told me it wouldnt be snowing in my area & it was tumbling out of the sky! :p
