  • Run a virus scan just to be on the safe side. That happened to one of my old Yahoo accounts & my GF got an e-mail from 'me' for the same sort of thing...I just changed to G-Mail (much better!)

If you access the mail via a web browser, then change your email password ASAP, as it's most likely been hacked.

its not really hacked as such it will mean that your login data has become part of a botnet. Its basically hundreds of machines that gather data like logins and automagically send out spam from which ever email accounts they can get there hands on. There isnt really any human interaction here but a simple hotmail pass change should do the trick.

it could have gathered your data quite easily from the net via google. this is why its best to have different passwords for every single site you use. the simplicity of getting ahuge list of hotmail passwords is so simple just by using google!!!!!

i simply just did one search and 4th hit was a list of over 1000 email account with passwords ready for the botnets to exploit. I have never used the same password twice on a site its just asking for trouble

Do you think they will now have a record of my contacts so that even when the password is changed they will still be able to email them?
  • its unlikely as they just repeatdly use your online account but it will be terminated if you change your pass

I am changing all my passwords but can't change the aol one as I am locked out for 24hours.Should I delete the address book?
  • just wait till its unlocked

dont panic no harm will be done to anyone it just a link to a shopping site

what happens is the people that own the bot will be sending out say 200k emails a day if 10 people actually buy something they may get commision or it may be a fake site but i cant imaging someone would by anything from that site as its in dollars and i imagine most of your friends would be in the UK
