Hi, this is the Daily Thread for xx (add date). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

  • Good morning. I'm up early with my new kitten. It was a surprise yesterday afternoon from my ds, dd in law and my dh.

Beautiful cat, but haven't had a kitten for quite a few years. I'm struggling to get him to use his litter tray.!

Homewise, my dh starts a new job today at Mr S. My youngest ds should be back to school after being off last week with bronchitis.

Still trying out recipes in my 'new to me' breadmaker that I got last week. Didn't put enough salt in the last one. Will see what the latest came out like today. And still wading through the soups I bought in the meal deal from Morrisons last weekend. That's dinner at work sorted for 50p!

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hi everyone

Again, it's been a while since I was on here, so I hope you are all keeping well and coping with the weather.

My BIL is home from hospital but things are not looking too good for him. He needs to start chemo soon but his bilirubin levels are still very high, and they need to get them down and clear the jaundice before they can start it. He has now lost four stone in as many weeks. We saw him - on Skype - last night. It was the first time we'd seen him since he was taken ill, and we were shocked at the change in him. He has not lost his sense of humour, though, and he seems to be feeling more positive. He needs to have a second stent fitted today, and they hope to do the biopsy at the same time. As you can imagine, all our thoughts are focusing on him at the moment; I just wish I was back in the UK. France feels so far away at the moment.

Christmas seems to be taking a while to get going here. France doesn't celebrate it in the same way as the UK, and I really miss the atmosphere back home; commercial as it can be, we OSers know it doesn't have to cost a fortune. Here, it almost takes a back seat.

JackieG - Happy Birthday to you!:bdaycake:

LouLou - perhaps a trip to the doctors is in order? If the cough is persistent, you may have a chest infection. Hope you feel better soon. There's nothing worse than losing sleep through coughing, because it wears you out.

Well, dinner tonight is what it should have been last night. We were on Skype for so long last night that dinner time came and went, and we ended up having egg and beans (especially imported by friends who have recently been in the UK!) on toast. I prepared all the veggies for a roast, so at least dinner will be easy for tonight. I have a lovely piece of pork fillet from our nearby farm, which we're really looking forward to.

Well, it's still very cold here but it's actually been sunny and dry for about four days now, after a good five or six days of constant rain. At least everything has dried out now, but below freezing temperatures have been predicted over the next few days, as in the UK.

Anyway, I'm off to have a shower and a cuppa - but not at the same time, of course!

    KathyXX

Gillian - the kitten sounds gorgeous! I'm sure he'll soon get used to the litter tray.

    Morning.

Work today and work for my supply teacher OH, so we are all busy. Kids to college and school....
Cold but not freezing, but it looks set to chill over the next several days... I hope we get snow his time around.
hemorrhaging money so not much chance of saving, although we always try and get best price.... I shudder to think of how much I am spending in electricity and oil as well.....
Have a good day every one

Been up since half 5, awake on and off since half 2, body clock is all to pot!!!!!

Usual day today walk DS2 to school, the back home and go to work, OH is off and going out to get his Christmas bits, sloppy joe to take to work for dinner, scampi and chips for tea.

Will find out today if we have a Chrsitmas tree as our usual supplier couldn't get them last year as they weren't big enough so if they don't I'll be off out to find another one.

Hope everyone has a good day

    Morning peeps

i didn`t manage to get online at all yesterday, very busy at w*rk and then too much to do once i got home! I`m on my second cuppa of the day - i woke earlier on the sofa where i zonked out last night. The sofa is very comfortable but i really need to stop doing this as it takes ages for my body clock to correct itself when changing shifts. Was nice and warm though as DH covered me up before he went off to bed, i know that once i`ve gone i`m almost impossible to wake up :o

Today will be spent shopping  All the cards will be posted, the food shopping will be done and most of the pressies that i`ve bought will be wrapped and delivered. I`m still waiting on some that have been hugely delayed in the post since last month due to the snow so those will have to wait but i need to get as many sorted out and delivered asap.

We have more bad weather forecast so i need to be prepared and replenish some of the stock from the last lot - at least when we were stuck due to the snow we didn`t run out of anything :p

Mioliere - ((((HUGS)))) for you and your family, fingers crossed that BIL can start his treatment soon.

Gillian - You`ve just brought back some memories for me :D I remember when we took in a stray years ago and she had 5 kittens shortly afterwards, training those was a bit  but mum helped lots. In that house we had woven wallpaper in the living room and the kittens could easily climb up it. It was a bit unnerving to walk in some days and find 5 kittens walking around on the walls :D

Loulou - Hope that you feel better soon, not nice being poorly!

JackieG - Have a fabby Birthday :bdaycake:

Hope that all the snottys are feeling much better now too, mine are still here but not as bad as they were in that its now safe to walk around the house without carrying a box of tissues :D don`t feel as drained either so a nice improvement there.

Right another cuppa and then a hot bath for me so have a good day peeps!

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p
  • Morning all
    Happy birthday JackieG
Thick frost on the car this morning, took a bit of scraping.
Didn't sleep well last night, my brain seemed to be on a hamster wheel, still I have a nice selection of things to worry about, from one DD being in danger from family whose childen she is fostering, other DD having an extra scan on Wednesday as there could be problems with the baby, to wondering how we will survive when I give up work as I'd bet my bottom dollar there will be no benefits available, lol.
Onwards & upwards, off to work soon I'm taking fruit & soup for my lunch, some good news, I counted the contents of the change jar last night & there is £62 in there.
    Keep safe & warm everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Cold here this morning, but meant to be getting very cold by the end of the week.

Today will be the usual clean through, need to hoover and mop downstairs, and give kitchen and bathroom a good clean, I also must must must start to wrap some presents, think I might bring dd's down this afternoon and get hers out of the way.

Yesterday OH and I went over to a localish town to collect 2 x Denby dinner sets from Argos, I have been keeping my eye on them for a while as they had a 1/3 off, anyway saw yesterday that there was only 2 left of the whole of our area, so we rushed to get them :j, they are beautiful, I am so pleased that we will not be eating off of chipped plates at Xmas. On the way back we stopped for chips in the local chippie, and I spent all afternoon bringing them back up, and OH felt dreadful, somehow we got food poisioning from the chips.

So dinner tonight will be last nights beef casserole and jackets, all of which is cooked, and will just need heating up.

Kathy, so sorry to hear your dbil is still so unwell, thinking of you and your sister xx I meant to ask you as well, did your cat ever turn up ??

    Jackie G Have a great day :bdaycake:xx

NPM, I love the photos, you all look so happy xx

Need to finish off my sainsbugs delivery today, which is coming on the 20th, so will sit with pad and pen and menu plan for the xmas week.

    Have good days all xx
