Sky - new customer, exisitng box and dish!

Dear all,

Hoping I can get some advice. I've just moved into a property and the previous owner has kindly left their old Sky dish and box. Unfortunately, the service has now expired and I'm left with their basic Freesat service, so no more Sir Jeff!

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get signed up as a new customer on a cheaper deal and/or reduced term contract, considering their is no box or dish for Sky to install. If so, how do I go about it - number to ring, etc?

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Best just to join as a new customer to get the cashback. Sell the box on Ebay. Join through Quidco or similar to get up to £115 in cashback.

  • All you need do is phone them for what is called " a second hand contract" card and they will merely send you a viewing card - no charge other than your monthly subscription charges but I believe it is still a 12 month minimum contract on a minimum £19 or £20 per month. No cheap deals on subscription however.

but a new box is only 19.50 a month on a basic contract.....may as well do as said, and flog the old box, and get new one!

As the existing dish is most probably a single LNB,If the OP wanted to get Sky+/HD installed, then an installer will need to visit to swap out the single LNB for a Quad & run new cabling, also Sky may require a phone link to be fitted.

I have one for you, just got sky + HD
and DS would like a box in his room too, was talking to a m8 about it and they gave me their old sky box, seeing as a second box on my contract would cost £60 (sky website) i just wanted a card... can this be done or do i have to go through sky and get the second box?

Another reason for not wanting to do it via sky is that i hear that you need to keep the second box connected to a phone line for a year (not got a problem with that at all) BUT when the engineer who installed the dish and sky + HD box up last week tried this (internet on another phone port in the house, internet also with sky) , it knocked out my internet, and he could see no resolve around this so said not to worry and we don't have the sky + HD connected to the phone line, he said it was only really there if i wanted extra stuff that like box office or what ever they call it, and seeing as i don't want any extras he was happy to leave the phone line alone.

No,you have to have all extra boxes connected to the phoneline. It's so Sky can see you have all the boxes connected to the same phoneline in the same house.as the second subscription is only a tenner,it stops you bunging the other box in your mum's home & her only paying a tenner instead of full price.

If the Sky box knocked out your internet it's most likely because you need to fit a microfilter on the Sky phone extension.
