I've always quite liked the Samsung ones - was going to get one myself, but went with a Dell Latitude that came with 3 years warranty instead
The Samsung ones are nice though and decent performance for the price. Go for it!0 -
Which one is better though, the R780 or R590? Also can't find it anywhere for a cheap price!

They have the same graphics card and therefore their gaming performance will be similar. They will play most games but if you hoping for high settings and framerates you'll be disappointed. You should buy a desktop instead.
You have been given some decent suggestions and told that you won't really get a decent gaming performance laptop unless you are prepared to spend more money. As an example, these guys will let you configure a laptop for gaming but you're looking at £600+:

Both are the same spec, except that the R780 has a larger screen size at 17" and the R590 is a 15".
Depends on preference and how much you want to carry the laptop around. The 17" will be pretty heavy to lug around a lot, plus it has a higher native resolution, which means that if you want your games to look their best, it will take a lot more horsepower to do so.
I would suggest the 15" to be honest. It will be a tad cheaper, provide better gaming performance at its optimal resolution and be easier to carry around, which is the main point of laptop
The Nvidia GT330M graphics card is pretty decent, too. They're using them in the latest MacBook Pro's which are pretty decent at gaming, too.0 -
Thanks, didnt know about the graphics card being used for macbook pros. Will probably go for the 15" as apparently it has a better battery life and has the 64 bit OS. I don't think I'd ever use the blu ray player with the other model so would be a waste.Enterprise-D wrote: »Both are the same spec, except that the R780 has a larger screen size at 17" and the R590 is a 15".

Alright, well I'l prob get it Late January/Feb when I have a steady amount of cash to fall back on once I spend the £700ish on the laptop! Where is the best place to try to haggle the price down for laptops?Best Freebies/Wins/Testers so far: HP Officejet Pro 8500, Vax Zen, Thorpe Park Tks, 2x Rockwell Tkts, Windows 7, 2x Chelsea vs Arsenal Tkts, Genio Phone, JLS Tickets, 2 PSP games, 2 Xbox 360 games, iPod Touch, Blackberry Torch, Westlife Tkts, Tinie Tempah tkts, New York Trip AND MORE...Thanks to all posters on here:beer::T0

Now I've just seen that the Samsung RF510 is more bought on Amazon than the R590. Looked at the reviews and they seem as good as the R590. Which is better??Best Freebies/Wins/Testers so far: HP Officejet Pro 8500, Vax Zen, Thorpe Park Tks, 2x Rockwell Tkts, Windows 7, 2x Chelsea vs Arsenal Tkts, Genio Phone, JLS Tickets, 2 PSP games, 2 Xbox 360 games, iPod Touch, Blackberry Torch, Westlife Tkts, Tinie Tempah tkts, New York Trip AND MORE...Thanks to all posters on here:beer::T0

My penny's worth:
Pro-gaming, I'd recommend looking for a matt screen (no point having a maxed out rig and can't play properly because of reflection) but they're hard to find - Dell does a matt screen in the Precision range, but way out of your budget.)
My recent experience in the Dell range (I'm not pushing them, merely giving a localised professional view) is that the Vostro range (small business laptops) can be pushed to give any 'gaming rig' a run for it's money, well within your budget.
Some key points:
Build your system online, then phone Dell and HAGGLE. I know several customers that created an i3 system online at about £700, then haggled up to an i7 for the same price.
Go for the best graphics option, but avoid Nvidia. Get ATi if available. I fix about 6-12 Nvidia chip failures a week, I've had to replace 3 ATi chip failures this year.
Don't accept 3Gb of memory. It's a patent failure in manufacturers to offer this - get matched pairs (2Gb+2Gb, and so on)
Get them to give you 3 year's warranty if you're good at haggling - onsite if possible!
Again, this might sound biased, but I'm self-employed as a contractor to Dell - check all your other options for warranty and callouts - gaming laptops have the highest failure rate in the business and make sure your backside is covered!
I recommend anyone buying any make of laptop secures a good, cheap 3 year warranty on their purchase.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer
