Just want a powerful performance based laptop which is up to date and recent. Intel i5 sound best, but if there is better, I won't mind. Want it with 4gb of ram though, definately. My budget is around £500 to £700.
Best Freebies/Wins/Testers so far: HP Officejet Pro 8500, Vax Zen, Thorpe Park Tks, 2x Rockwell Tkts, Windows 7, 2x Chelsea vs Arsenal Tkts, Genio Phone, JLS Tickets, 2 PSP games, 2 Xbox 360 games, iPod Touch, Blackberry Torch, Westlife Tkts, Tinie Tempah tkts, New York Trip AND MORE...

Currys are doing a refurb HP Pavillion dv7-4050ea in their refurb section at £729.
Thats a spec of :- core i7-720QM, 4Gb ram, and ATI HD 5650 graphics card, which is no slouch.
Personally, I prefer the Envy series, especially Beats audio, but they are way out of budget alas.
Why refurb? Hmm, well...the bios has not been without issue, and you really must update it to latest release. Also, it's stupidly hot if on your lap for any length of time. But use it with a decent laptop cooler, and I suspect it will impress.0 -

Pick two.
Indeed. Dell XPS and Alienware are pretty much the only game in town and they're all over £1k for what the OP is wanting.0 -

A certain proverb about 'beggars' and 'choosers' comes to mind. for £700odd youare really REALLY going to struggle to get any kind of gaming spec
Best i've seen for around that budget are the msi GX series machines eg GX740 or 640 or the medion erazer0 -
alienware would be nice0

You will struggle to get a decent gaming laptop for under £1000.
The problem is the Graphics Card. You can get a nice i5 system with 4GB but you'd most likely just get some horrible excuse for a graphics card. If you really do want something that's worthwhile, I would save up a few hundred more and get an XPS, Alienware or Rock laptop.0
