I use sainsburys and have been very impressed, I always opt for no substitutes though. I keep hoping they will be late as they give a £10 voucher! I had Tesco a few years ago...it took me 5 years to do another online order!!!!!

I use Asda only when i have to.I would use Tesco`s but they do not accept my visa electron card.I am going to use sainsburys today as my house is full of ill people and i cant get to the shops.I dont expect any problems with them, but thats because i am sure they wont be as bad Asda.:rotfl:

  • I've used Sainsbury's, Tesco, and Asda, and Ocado (once). I used to love Sainsbury's- recently they've gone down hill. They send me food which is going out of date that day for a 9 pm delivery. They don't always list the food as short life and some weeks I have lots of substitutions. Also during the recent bad weather they just didn't bother to turn up- they said they had tried phoning, but I was in all day with my husband and children because my boiler had broken down. Tesco fare far better but they seem to be far more expensive than shopping in store.

Asda is awful here, bad substitutions, food going off and it's expensive. I haven't used them since I was waiting for a delivery last year and they were insisting until 11pm that my delivery was going to turn up (it was for a children's party the next day). We finally got them to admit that they weren't coming and my poor husband got up at 5:30am to make sure that my party wasn't ruined!

Ocado was fine, it was just that they were coming from so far away that if there was any trouble on the roads they would never get here, so I just haven't used them again.

I use Tesco as well - have done for over 10 years. Very occasionally there are things missing, but if you phone them they will refund you without any hassle. I've also had the occasional freebie - once a carrier bag full of frozen fish and ice cream, which lasted us for months! They told us to keep it because you can't return frozen stuff after 2 hours.

I've used Sainsburys and Tesco...much prefer Sainsburys (both their food and delivery service). Had some probs with Tesco in the past...once the driver didn't turn up, phoned customer service and they said he had been and no one was home...totally not true, we were home all evening. They rearranged delivery for the next day and still no show, so we eventually got a refund. Also had some silly subs, v.v. short shelf life, very late drivers, missing items or getting bags meant for other people with them too.

Sainsburys, have been good with shelf life, never had anything missing or gotten other peoples stuff. If they're late (which they've never been more than 5-10mins late for me so far) you get a £10 off voucher. The only prob I've had with them was once they mixed up my receipt with someone elses and charged my card with approx £110 for someone elses shopping when mine came to about £80. I was impressed with their customer service though...it was sorted in one phone call, CS put me through to the store and they immediately refunded my card with £30. The office was shut for the afternoon so she couldn't even check I was telling the truth or the exact amounts...just took my word for it, so I was impressed because I was expecting a battle to get my money back.

I used to get ASDA deliveries when I lived in London - the most silly thing about them was the number of carrier bags they used - I once was given a carrier bag containing a single garlic bulb. I don't know why they didn't just bring the stuff up in the plastic boxes straight off the van. I also ended up with a lot of substitutes and missing items.

I've used Tesco home delivery a few times and they fare better. The website is better and you can usually get vouchers from myvouchercodes that cover the delivery costs.

I'm not impressed with Asda at all.

    I use Sainsbury's and they're very good. I don't use substitutes, though.

The only problem I had was the Christmas before last when they asked for another method of payment and, when my son couldn't give them one, took our Christmas away! Quick call from me established that the bank (Abbey - now there's a surprise) had blocked the card. Apparently (they told me) they do this randomly - c every 700 cards - as a security measure! Luckily, I had another card, paid and Sainsbury were back before the end of the delivery slot. Said they weren't surprised, it wasn't the first time!

ETA: BTW, they take Nectar points against on-line shopping now

  • I have used Asda several times and they are not very good. Most fresh items have very short dates and usually have squashed yoghurts and dented tins but the driver is long gone before I get chance to reject anything.

Last year due to snow they cancelled my Christmas food shop. I was offered the choice to have them pick my order then I could go and collect from store but couldn`t get there ( the Asda it comes from is the most difficult to reach out of my three nearest stores) Now I didn`t expect them to risk life and limb to bring my food but would have been perfectly happy to take delivery in the days following Boxing Day as tbh most of it was just normal food I needed anyway rather than specifically for Xmas. They refused point blank to offer me any other slot though I would have thought it usually goes quieter immediately after Xmas. Not even a `sorry for the inconvenience` nor a token £5 off my next shop!

I managed with what I had and could pick up locally, we didn`t starve as I always keep my cupcoards and freezer well stocked. All round a very MSE Christmas.

I use Ocado weekly. They rarely have substitutions and if they do, they replace them with something sensible, the delivery drivers are lovely, the products are quality, including a lot more unusual items that I can't get at Tesco. I like their service counter meat and fish that is cut and packaged to order.

I do a mid week shop in Tesco and pick up their offers, because Ocado is not nearly as good for discounts.
