I've spent about £275 on each of my boys. Got a lot of good deals so actually will be 2 very big piles on Christmas morning, worried I have went overboard but it's my first year doing Christmas myself for them, have also paid cash so no bills in January! Can't wait to see them enjoy their presents!

    Highchair a present?

    These are regular items:huh:

Presents are treats/extras/things that make you happy.

As a parent buying basic equiptment & clothing isn't presents.

ETA I guess it takes all kinds & we all have different ideas.

This would be a great thread if people were not so judgemental, everyone has their own idea of how to celebrate christmas and i think its interesting to read the way others do things. I think its great if people can spend very little on presents if thats what suits them and they have a good time, but i just get caught up in it all and enjoy shopping a bit too much :p. My son had a particularly hard start in life being born last year 3 months premature so last christmas was spent in hospital for our family and if ive went overboard this year its just in all the excitement of having both of my babies at home for christmas the very first time :D
  • In my opinion, clothes can be presents. For instance: your child might want a pair of Adidas trainers, when you would normally only be happy to buy them non-branded ones. For Christmas you may be inclined to spend a bit more on Adidas.

Likewise your 6 month old twins might need highchairs. Once you've spent money on the necessary highchairs, you have less for toys. You buy a few toys but on Christmas Day a 6 month old has no notion that toys are the in thing for babies, so you show it it's nice new highchair and big up how nice and new and colourful it is and the child is happy as larry with both its highchair and toys!
  • If I had my way I would spend a good £150 on the children each. Get them a nice branded bike, or massive play set.

As it is my husband is the grounding force, and we have gone in with my family to buy the play set, so DS still gets it, but my family have also bought some of it. My DD will get a bike, but not the branded one I wanted, and I am sure it will be just as much enjoyed.

With Stockings and their present from us, it probably comes to £80. Other family members get between £15 and £30 spent on them depending on what we see and who is hosting that year.
