Thanks for all the reply's.
So when Apple say the antenna issue has affected fewer than expected, what does this mean? Does it mean some people dont have any problems at all or does it just mean that Apple haven't had as many reports as they thought?
Thanks0 -
that's just damage control/marketing speil, thay could easily just have said: 'we expected 100billion people to be affected, so even if every one of the 6-and-a-bit billion people on the earth were all effected it still sounds good for apple'.
truth is if you get one and you are one of the people who has this problem, then it doesnt matter if you are the only one in the whole world for it to effect it is still a problem for you, luckily if it does effect you, you can call apple and they will give you a free 'bumper' case, or if you want the total minimalism of the iphone and dont want a case on it then you can buy a 'shield' like this, that would solve the problem and prevent any scratches all while not adding any bulk to the phone, or as a more extreme method wait until next june when the next iphone will come out.0 -
I don't quite understand how some people won't be affected by it? Is this because they could possibly be holding it in a different hand or something?0
-
easy if you take this picture of someone holding it:

as you can see the way he is holding it is bridging that gap on the left hand side, if he/she has swetty hands (because sweat contains salt and is a very good conductor) the signal would drop, whereas if he was holding it with the right hand the left hand gap would not be covered (and it doesnt matter about the right gap because as I said above it is only aesthetic).
it just depends how you hold it (which explains why steve jobs CEO of apple famously email someone saying "you're holding it wrong")0 -
So why are people still buying this expensive handset if there are known problems?0

This was a hoax and was proven he hadn't.0 -

Two reasons.
First the faults are really not that bad, Mines never had any greater amount of dropped calls than other phones, and think about the Apple launches, they are always big news, they always get TV coverage, you don't get that when HP or Dell launch a new device. Apple news (good or bad) is always well publicised.
Secondly (and know no doubt there will be many comments to this) but in my opinion its because quite simply it's the best smartphone experience at the moment. Android is getting there, Windows Mobile 6 is dead and gone, Windows 7 is not really out in the wild a lot yet, Palm WebOS is pretty much dead too at the moment (although it may or may not be revived by HP) and Apple has the lead.
Pick up any smartphone and play. Chances are if you start from scratch with any OS you'll be au fait with IOS 4 faster than anything else.
You pay for the consistant apple look and feel and consistantcy between apps. Your paying for a beautiful design, a single integrated company that does the hardware and software so makes the work better together and finally because it's the market leader and has a very slick advertising machine behind it.
It is technically the best smartphone, probably not, but it's the best user interface at the moment.0 -

Above all, though (and this goes for all designer merchandise), you are paying for the name.
Before anyone wails about that not being true, just ask anyone who has done a degree in business and they'll all tell you the same.If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

Absolutly. Your buying into the Apple brand and Apple Ecosystem, so every "made for iPxxx " branded item makes a little money for Apple.0 -
The iPhone 4 is my first iPhone, had pretty much avoided them since launch...not that I hated Apple, I'm very much a big fan of Apple, have used Macs for my home and study for many years now.
But I'm also a tech geek and wasnt really blown away by the previous generation iphones, however a few years ago, I was very much into the BlackBerry platform, but the last phone I bought from them (Storm2) scarred me, what an awful phone! I wanted more out of a smartphone and was getting envious by the day, when a new cool app/game was released for iPhone only.
So although sceptical of antennagate, this year I made the jump and can honestly say It's the best smartphone I've used. I got it in time before they stopped the free case program, so although I didnt feel I needed it for reception issues; I got one anyway (pixel HD) to protect it from bumps and scratches.
Believe me I have no antenna issues apart from the norm.
I'm on the Tesco/o2 network if that helps.0
