Tesco Deliveries backlogged

Am pretty annoyed right now. I went to Mr T's yesterday (Friday) to collect a Direct order (my first, as a result of the Double Up offer) that was due in on Thursday at 4pm. It wasn't there - apparently they had received no delivery the previous day and Fridays was delayed until the afternoon.

I called them today to be told that this is due to the backlog from the bad weather, and that they were "doing all they can" to straighten things out.

Is it too much to expect that one week after the standstill things would be pretty much back on track?

Maybe I am being unfair but ....... I see you are from london. Have you seen the news about how the weather is affecting the rest of the country. Up north the roads are only just clearing , my parents are still unable to leave their village due to the ice and the army have been clearing roads in scotland for the ambulances.

Maybe enquire at Tesco where their delivary is coming from , I believe some of the HGV drivers that have been stuck for days have been freed now am sure they would appreciate the OT.

Yes, I think you're being pretty hasty in getting annoyed with them, as they, along with every delivery company, had major problems with deliveries this week. As Picasso2 says, the roads throughout the country have been affected, I live in the outskirts of Glasgow and have been unable to get my car out all week, the motorways have been closed, people have been stranded for over 12 hours for trips that only normally take half an hour and no deliveries are getting anywhere. At the moment most roads are a lot better but I still had to dig myself out of the ice last night. I was expecting a Tesco direct delivery on Monday and am hoping to get it this week sometime, but I certainly won't be giving them any grief about it. The police were advising motorists not to drive unless essential for most of the week and I wouldn't expect a delivery driver to risk his life to get my shopping to me.
  • Even worse in Edinburgh, I've been snowed in for two weeks, today was the first day I could get my car out.

I received a text from Tesco Direct about an order made a couple of weeks ago to say if I haven't already picked it up, some chance!, it will be available to pick up from 4.00 pm on Monday. I'm happy to wait until next week as hopefully by then the petrol tankers will also have been able to get to the garages and Marks will have received their store pick-up deliveries as they haven't had any this week either.
  • I too have had tesco direct orders delayed due to the bad weather, but had a call today to advise they are in store for collection - which I am quite happy with especially since they have kept me informed by text and phone.:j

However have just gone on to order something else got to checkout screen and find this message:

We apologise for any inconvenience, but unfortunately we are currently unable to take any new orders in Scotland & the Scottish Isles. This is due to the adverse weather conditions causing a build up of orders

They are the only online company I have come across who are not accepting orders for Scotland! It snowed,it caused chaos,we are getting over it and Tesco need to get a grip. They got the whole big exchange promo timing all wrong, clashing with the change of rules on their rewards scheme, and Christmas shopping peak - lucky for them they have the snow excuse to fall back on? - just not good enough.

I'm far from happy with them either. A general ban on the whole country for 3 weeks is absolute nonsense. We had really bad snow here but there's barely anything to be seen now and the roads are clear. Did a 200 mile round trip to Glasgow yesterday and the roads were perfect. Have emailed them but expect nothing but excuses.

Sunday evening - 4 days after my scheduled collection date - and I've not had so much as a phone call to apologise. If they couldn't make the Thursday 4pm slot, then they really should have let me know.

but refusing orders now allows buyers to shop elsewhere rather than be canceled later.
if they clear the backlog then they can easily start taking orders again

But Tesco wouldn't win would they? Thosecomplaining that Scotland orders aren't being taken would be moaning about the orders not being fulfilled itf Tesco WERE still taking orders!! Geeze, Tesco bashing is getting boring now. (and NO I don't work for them just sick of the whingeing)

I do agree that calls or texts to say stuff has been delayed would have been ideal and they are out of order for not doing it but the more people they are paying to phone/send messages/programme computers to send messages, the less people they can pay to actually try and sort the dispatch delays out.
