Due to circumstances out of our control when buying the house we had to change our mortgage provider and product, and we decided to increase our deposit by £11,000. Can this money be counted towards achieving our MFW target?

MFW #48 reporting in
Seventh overpayment of 2011 made on the 15th July 2011
Overpayment target: £1200
July overpayment : £50
Overpayments to date: £1050
My overall mortgage status is now:
Mortgage at 20/07/2011
Outstanding balance: £47,379
Estimated endowment value: £27,359 (revalued 1 July)
Investments: £15,107
Deficit: -£4,913
For my information on the damage I'm doing to the mortgage, here's the link to my diary...

My overpayments since Jan 09 will also save me an estimated £1,284 before my original target MF date of September 2014.
My overpayment reserve is £7,800, well over 22 months regular mortgage payments.
With the success of this strategy, the stretch target of September 2012 remains the new target (13 months to go and counting....)
I've received my invitation to negotiate a new deal on the mortgage when my fixed rate expires. However, a BMR of 2.5% looks attractive with just 13 months to go, so this looks like the best option for now.
Good to see everyone else's progress. Keep the faith!

I'm not sure if I will be able to stay with the challenge after next month's OP as I am taking redundancy.
Although I will get a good payoff, and could pay off 30% of my outstanding mortgage with it, I would like a couple of months off work - I've worked solidly for 25 years now and the last year or two have been very stressful, so I could do with a nice long break. If I then get back into work quickly then I will be able to carry on with the MFW challenge, and maybe even beat my target.
So....watch this space!What goes around comes around.....I hope!0 -
