I recently joined AOL Broadband. This was after being assured that I would still be able to send 3rd party emails through Outlook Express by using thier smtp address.
I have a number of other email addresses that I still need the use of for work etc and whilst I can accept emails, I am having no luck in sending them.
I have gone in live chat with the supposed live technical helpers and they have just filled me with lies. I have sent emails which have been of no help. I have followed all instructions they have sent but still no good.
Anyone else had this problem? If so did you manage to resolve it?
I sent them a email yesterday threatening to cancel my direct debit and contract as they aint fulfilling the promises they made. Hopefully this will bring a positive resolution to it. But any advice would be excellent.

As I said in my first post, I have followed all instructions they have given me, including changing the port to 587.0

Have you?. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I'll be watching the replies with interest. I used to be able to do this on most occasions with AOL dial up on old computer but now on AOL BB on new PC I'm also having difficulties.
A couple of test emails seem to have got through on port 25 (which proves it is possible) but it took forever( and mail had no content) and most of the time it just fails with this message -
Task '??? - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).0 -
spoke to AOL - same as previous user. No joy - they just say contact 3rd party.
It is annoying though as it used to work on old pc with AOL dial up
just have to stick with webmail and send myself a copy of sent mail0 -
I have no problems at all with using Yahoo, Hotmail and GMail but those are of course, web-based email facilities.
I've been an AOL user for 11 years, and have NEVER managed to get smtp emails to work, however.

I can't understand why you think that AOL should sort this out for you! You know that they block SMTP port 25, so you need to find out how to access your third party e-mail providers by asking them i.e. what port, authentication required etc. if you want to use an e-mail client. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I didn't expect them to sort it out but thought it was worth asking as it used to work for me when on AOL dial up0

So have you re-configured your e-mail client using the information from your third party e-mail provider to use an alternative port? Have you tried pinging the SMTP of your third party provider? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I'm amazed you could get it to work with dial-up as I never could.0
