If you're on a scheduled flight it's always worth dressing very slightly smarter. No T Shirt and jeans - just open necked shirt (blouse) and slacks.
It does give you a head start in the upgrade stakes !0 -
swizzle wrote:Rohan Goas- what are they- trousers? joggers? where do you get them? and do they do short leg? i`m only 5ft 1 in.
Looks like I should invest in some pettie joggers-smart-but casual instead of my normal jeans.
Realy all I have been thinking about is the kids! as usual i come last!
They are only available from Rohan stores or online from https://www.rohan.co.uk (sorry can't do a link). They are £45 but I think they are worth every penny. I wear mine all year round as they are so comfortable, dry quickly and don't need ironing. They are also very hard wearing. Have had mine for years and they still look as good as new.0 -
Might see if I can get hubbie to get me some as a early xmas prezzie!
Are they better than the Regatta one`s?
Also, does it still get cold on planes? It`s been 6 years since my last flight! And what about footwear?
We are travelling emirates in econamy- do you still get blankets? You did last time I lew with Malaysian
Thank youApril Grocery challange £175
Spent week 1 £29.90

I havnt flown with emerates but everyone else gives you a blanket and a pillow, I normally throw them on the floor pains in the !!! things get in the way. I travel in what im comfortable in, I always as for an upgrade but it hasnt worked yet either when I have been dressed in a shirt and trousers or when wearing jeans and tshirt so dressing smart doesnt always work. so I now opt for comfort and a cheeky smile at check in. I know one thing im not traveling in a dinner suit just for a free upgrade.
When Im flying I always prefer to keep my shoes on I have seen so many people fly and their feet swell up that cant get their shoes back on after, The worst ever choce was rockport boots that was uncomfortable but they are fantastic for everyday use.
The stuff you pack to change in to should be for the climate of your destination, We take shorts if going to somewhere hot and joggers or thermals if its gonna be cold.0 -
We have flown with Emirates, you get the usual pillow and light blankets, it can get cold if the aircon is on full. I travel in drawstring waist loose linen trousers flat slip on shoes or sandals and a t shirt, I usually carry a spare shirt and undies. I second the shower at Singapore it's a nice refresher and they provide all the shampoo etc you might need. I have a light fleece that screws up small but is warm and can also double as a second pillow to get comfy.
The entertainment on Emirates is good but I always take books and my walkman to keep me happy.
Hope you have a great time and the flights are not too traumatic with children!0 -

Rohan is GREAT quality. I bought Rohan stuff 5 years ago and still wear it on trips now. It's very hard wearing and washes and dries so quickly. I have a pair that is trousers, zips off to 3/4 length and zips off again to shorts - 3 outfits in one !
Yes you will get a blanket in economy and you should also get a pair of socks which I put over my current socks and walk about the plane in them and then peel them off before I land and chuck em !!****************************0 -
If I'm travelling to a hot country I wear a long casual cotton skirt with a strappy t-shirt under a sweater. I wear slip on mules and if long haul put on my flight socks on the plane. On short haul flights I don't bother with the flight socks.
If travelling back from a hot country in the winter then I change out of summer gear at the airport - as they are air con and slip the clothes into my suitcase. I usually wear joggers and t-shirt and jumper. Keep my mules on and put my boots on when I get back to the car as I will have left them in the boot of the car.
I never take a change of clothes for any of us as we like to keep hand luggage to a minimum. I do take some cleansing wipes though.
Virgin provide flight socks, eye masks, ear plugs and toothbrush and paste on their flights.
Also long and short haul if you ask they will give you a blanket and pillow. I always take my own blow up neck pillow too.
My Oh wears shorts under his trackkie bottoms so he can do a quick change. My DD is a law unto herself now and never listens to me. I do put a fleece for her in the zip part of the case so it's easy to locate once we have our bags back.
In the car we leave a pillow, fleece blanket and raincoats for the journey home.

I normally wear loose fitting trousers and a loose tunic/overshirt type top, in non-crease material, and bare feet with sandals. It's comfy but smart looking.
I take a chunky cardigan and thick wooly socks. As soon as I get on the plane I take my sandals off and put the socks on as I always get cold feet when I'm flying!
I don't take a whole change of clothes, but clean undies and a spare top are handy if you fancy a quick freshen up. Due to fligt changes, we flew back from Mexcio overnight and landed at Gatwick mid-morning, but our connecting flight to Newcastle wasn't until early evening. It was nice to have a decent wash at Gatwick and put a clean top and undies on as I felt scruffy by then! Here I go again on my own....0 -
Swizzle, don't pay the prices for crocs over here. My mum sent me a pair from Oz. Ok, they are imitation ones but they only cost her $10 !!! Which is about £4 !!! They look exactly the same too. I love the funny looks I get when I wear them !!!
As for clothes on the plane, like everyone else has said, make sure it is comfy and not too tight. Best advice for the kids is to take a couple of changes, I expect you know that meal times on a plane are restrictive on space, which means spillages !!!
See if you can prebook your seats, if you haven't already. You may be able to get the bulkhead ones, with more leg room.
Finally, I am so jealous, have a great time WISH IT WAS ME !
I am in the future you know...
...9 hours ahead to be exact !:D0 -
My checked baggage has gone astray just once when I flew into Havana. It took four days for the airline to get my rucksack to me so I was extremely thankful for the 2 of pairs of knickers, a couple of vest tops, and a toothbrush in my carry-on. Although my insurance would've covered me for buying immediate necessities, it really was incredibly difficult to find anything to buy that was even halfway wearable. Believe me I tried. I've still got the nylon floral top, worn once only, as a reminder. I never, ever travel without some spare drawers, a clean top, and a minimal wash kit in my hand luggage, just in case.0
